The Coop Mega Recap: Everyone’s Face Did In Fact Go to Hell!

That Devil… Is that not one of the most recognizable graphics of pop culture from the past 20 or so years? You’ve all seen it, you’ve all loved it and we were more than stoked to bring one of our childhood idols and his work to our shop and gallery space.

The man has worked with some truly legendary bands and created some of the most iconic imagery of my youth, so this was a real treat to not only have him in the building but to have his work grace a Мишка tee.

You see that guy on the right? That’s Coop (and that’s his lovely girlfriend Stephanie on the left) and man did he cause a whole lot of commotion last Friday at 350 Broadway. What started out as  a pretty chill evening full of eager Kaiju fiends hoping to scoop up a either a Raw Power or Fire Starter Boryoku Genjin, eventually turned into a mad house that spilled well into the streets!

None of us were sure what to expect… we’d grown up with Coop, and knew it was quite a while since he’d displayed new work in New York City. Even Coop didn’t think there would be that many people outside of the Kaiju Hunters, mentioning that Hipsters aren’t into his work. Well he was wrong! Dude’s an icon.

To get Coop to show at 350 Broadway and to even do a tee with us we totally had to sign our souls away to him much like that poor Boryoku Genjin above.

There was a whole ceremony a month back where we sacrificed chickens, lit candles, painted a pentagram on the floor, the works. But you know what? It as worth it, cause we got to work with Coop.

Besides the original artwork, Kaiju and tees for sale there was also a limited run (50) of signed and numbered prints by Coop featuring his dissected Boryoku Genjin illustration.

These along with the tees will be hitting the online shop pretty soon. We’ll keep you posted on exactly when. The Boryoku Genjin,, sorry that shit was gone in a minutes time.

You see this lucky fella? He was one of the people who won the lottery for a Boryoku Genjin. But he didn’t just win any Boryoku Genjin, he got the fire starter one which there were only 3 made worldwide.

I wonder what the price would be if it reached eBay or Yahoo Japan!? These things have been fetching close to a G each… but a limited to 3 version!?? I don’t even want to guess!

You see this smug bastard? Well that’s Joel AKA Lamour Supreme… he and Greg were shifty and decided to piggy back on Coop’s name to have their own little show on the opposite wall of the shop, showcasing their original inks and sketches for the various Boryoku Genjin header cards they had worked on together.

You can see some of them there behind Joel, but fear not, we’ll have more detailed look at their work tomorrow. I promise!

This is what the scene was like for the first hour or so, pretty chill. Employees, friends, toy guys, people looking for a free drink… when I arrived I thought that’s probably how it would stay. I was wrong.

This is what it eventually turned into and this pictures doesn’t even truly capture just how packed the shop was. It was fuckin’ P-A-C-K-E-D! There were probably another 50 people outside of the shop and another 20 hidden away in our back office. And man did it get hot!!! I guess that was only fitting since it’s Coop with the whole Devil and Devil Girls thing though.

Both Nicky Digital and Igor of Driven by Boredom (who was there for Complex) were on the scene with their cameras snapping away. They got some great shots and I highly recommend you visit both of their galleries on the event. If you were there, you’re probably there! I’m lurkin somewhere in the background.

These guys were there… they were drunk, hot and having a good time until someone told Greg how much one of those Boryoku Genjin would of fetched on eBay. Ouch!

Head after the break for some pics from both Nicky and Igor, the party photog professionals, and seriously visit their sites for their full galleries! It was a great night, can’t wait until the next show at the store!

Some of Igor’s pics…

I bet they were texting their friends to get their asses over to the show!

And now some of Nicky’s pics…
