Why Are We NOT Talking about ‘Predators’?

I just find it strange, is all. Seems right up our alley. I think—gasp!—it might actually not be half-bad, though I have absolutely no evidence to substantiate this half-a-claim.

And when did Fishburne become the Andrew McCarthy of all that resonates in my pop culture DNA? He is in—like—EVERYTHING I love. Plus some other shit. But still.

Please feel free to make this as rhetorical a question as you like, but, well, I just coulda swore that we all collectively love this sort of shit.

Oh, and: Comicon! Topical!

It seems like everybody is realizing how excited for this they actually are, and just this week. I hadn’t seen any trailers or anything, and didn’t seek them out on the account of assuming it would blow as bad as the AvP movies… but now that I’ve seen some, I’m down.

Also: PS: Why am I sort of chronically disappointed by the fact that Lou Diamond Philips isn’t in this movie?

oooo I know, because they made the Predators heads too big and now they look stupid in every commercial. It looks like a predator, wearing an oversized predator Halloween mask. And if the explanation is “no these are a different breed of tougher, scarier Predators” then why is only their head bigger, it makes the rest of them look smaller and out of proportion by comparison.

in the old cliche argument, I’ve always preferred Aliens, but i’m still pretty damn excited about this movie. Danny Trejo taking on predators? i mean c’mon, it’s gotta be awesome

@DVVG: I think you’re right. This one totally snuck up on me. And yes: I hope it’s not so shitty as the AVP stuff…I really want a return to form with the first one, which is what this looks like. Might be the jungle talking.

@Eat: you are thinking about it in a way—a depth, really—that I never really dreamt of. Never went there. I am mostly distracted by the lazer dots and the heat vision. I am absolutely ready willing and able to nostalgify this thing into exactly what I think I remember from childhood…it just needs to meet a certain—very low—standard of quality to not distract me from my dream.

@GoLion: I have always preferred Predator. It was like the first Rated R movie my mom ever let me watch, and it was a fucking EVENT for me. My friends and I ran around my school pretending to have our chests fucking ‘sploded for an entire schoolyear. I haven’t delved too deep into the crosslore between the two species, but I think there’s some relatively good stuff out there…but! Like with Star Wars books/comics, I just wouldn’t know where to start.

This totally came out of the blue for me as well. Hard to beat one and two but this looks mighty good!

I was excited about Alien Vs. Predator… but I was left disappointed.

inception looks like a good movie, so does “The Social Network”

  8. MattVanBuren Says:

I have so much respect for Laurence Fishburne.

not only for his role in “Boyz in Da Hood”… but for his breathtaking performance in Nightmare on Elm Street 3

  9. Rapist Wit Says:

Hopefully this keeps the Hard R rating just like the second Predator movie. Predator 2 way underated.

  10. eatyourchildren Says:

Yeah, I’ll probably see it too. Bobble-headed Preds and all.
