Wavves Appears on ABC News’ “Amplified”

ABC News’ has weekly segment called Amplified (which rose from the ashes of their “New Music Monday” segments) where reporter Dan Harris sits down new bands  he feels are deserving aof a wider audience.

This week he sat and spoke with Nathan Walliams, Billy Hayes and Stephen Pope of… Wavves! It’s a short but pretty candid interview about the rise of the unexpected rise of the band, their very public meltdown’s last year and of course their triumphant new album, King of the Beach. Oh yeah, Nathan and Billy are also decked out in Мишка during the whole thing.

I have to say, lame as it may sound it’s pretty fucking thrilling to see the brand now so regularly featured in the press of what is a truly fantastic album.

I saw Lil Jon wearing a Kill it with Power hat on VH1

  2. astralforest Says:

hmmm!, only wish i saw what everyone else sees with him!. pal especially!, being that most to all of your post are on him.

There are so many passed up gems this year alone, that have surpassed both of his albums!.

  3. astralforest Says:

Also being that this is the mid quarter which still blows my mind!.

And by comparing i mean artist/bands in the same bracket as, Mr. Williams who demolish him in every frame plain and simple!. they don’t get the same praise as him obviously.but continue to out put these gems later vanishing into oblivion!. sad fact, but true.

  4. My Pal the Crook Says:

Go ahead name them and I’ll refute them all as not even coming close to this…. you’re going to spout off 10 decent lo-fi indie an/or garage releases that for whatever have more cache to you because they’re not as talked about. Not because they’re actually better albums. And please don’t say Women again because they sound nothing at all like Wavves. I don’t even know why you’d compare the two?

This album deserves every single bit of praise it’s been getting. And if honestly can’t see why not, and i mean seriously can’t hear it, then I genuinely feel for you because you’re missing out on one of the most enjoyable listening experiences this year. But if you’re just doing the whole “I’m a Jaded Hipster, so the more popular this gets the more I can’t like it” which i suspect your are doing, then you’re just being silly.

Hmm! rather not get into a tedious rapture keep it a little beief btw i never ever compared women and wavves in sound. i was simply stating that there new upcoming album will surpass this his shit bag album in creatively &/ this form of what is now being called “movement” and “progress” when in reality is quite lackluster!. i mean you can match the two based on stats/ having two albums with a few 7″s dropped!. but with womens new album which most to all haven’t heard yet! (have you?) is what i would call a full grip on taking control of there sound but refining it a tad (movement progression) staying true to themselves and not being confused on any levels. wavves in general rounded seems contrived in all!. public strain (women) is more enjoyable complexities in forms of greater matter. there’s no trivial banter within them as artist/writers.

i could name 100s of great lo-fi indie an/or garage releases that have destroyed this album but what would be the point?. the opinionated fathom will win regardless!.

O’ by the way japandroids – post nothing, could easily destroy this album is what i said!. on the lines of fun poppy punk with no pretension at all i almost feel can them touch each inch of my body/me wanting to elapse into a seizure of joy!.

“I’m a Jaded Hipster, so the more popular this gets the more I can’t like it” lol 22 now pal not 18 with mends of hinged open wounds!.

p.s supersoaker fizzles out for me i feel more dry than wet!. dull

    brief

  7. astralforest Says:

also what the fuck is stephen talking about it’s called discussion and freedom of whatever the fuck you feel like saying which makes this country great.

  8. My Pal the Crook Says:

Dude come on… Japandroids? Apples and Oranges.

Yeah dude I agree, Women are weird and interesting and they make it work, especially on their new album. But dramatic creative leaps are not what King of the Beach is about, people are enamored with because of how well executed it is for a modern Power-Pop-Punk whateveryouwannacallit album. Appreciate it as such.

I still stand by my previous statement. You’re hating just to hate and you’re going to come back to this in a few years and be like “Huh, you know what I like this!”

  9. astralforest Says:

Dude come on… Japandroids? Apples and Oranges.

should i have said blink- 182?

will see, will see it might!.

  10. My Pal the Crook Says:

i wish Blink-182 sounded like this. I’d have been a fan. That’s waaaaaay more over done and polished. KIng of the Beach is the perfect mix of rough with the smooth. Plus the Nathan isn”t whiny, He’s snotty and angsty!

  11. astralforest Says:

I’ll have to call johnny rotten up right away and see what he has to say about this kids shtick!.

i wish blink did too back then! – adam’s song had such promise dead hopes sigh*

KIng of the Beach overly polished with too much pretense!.

  12. My Pal the Crook Says:

Nope. Perfect amount of polish and what pretense? Come on go back and listen to it. Do you think multiple people just happen to be bringing Nevermind into the conversation just because? Or coincidentally? There’s a reason! This is that same polish without dulling the vibe effect Nirvana went through from Bleach to Nevermind. Few bands ever have that luxury or achieve that sweet sweet hybrid of points in their career.

  13. astralforest Says:

    I’ll try

  14. astralforest Says:

also i was never a fan of nirvana growing up this re-visiting there entire catalogs along with unreleased material bsides still certified that for good!. more pearl jam kinda guy back then. with that being said should leave you will my opinion. kurt couldn’t play a lick just like williams that they do have in common!.

  15. astralforest Says:

http://www.last.fm/user/AstralForest take a gander at my charts js does it look like i want some obnoxious punk kid anywhere near there or in my itunes.

  16. My Pal the Crook Says:

Nope. But I think you could use one!

  17. astralforest Says:

I’ll try. but, even his “alleged” girlfriend best coast wore thin on me with her debut!.

I’m not easy to win over especially in this stage in my life!. way past pretension or denial… It’s when you’re completely contempt as a whole!.

  18. astralforest Says:

that 1 listen can decide for you not 3 or 4!.

  19. astralforest Says:

    I’ll try again though.

  20. Young Werther Says:

You guys need a segment called “Astralforest says”. Also King Of The Beach is just a simple rehash OF Blink-182/MxPx/Sum 41. Seriously if this came out 10 years ago it would just be lost in the fray. He’s way to obsessed sounding like he IS San Diego. It’s annoying. I can tell you as a resident of this awful city, it is nothing that anyone should embody. Regardless of HOW they decide to embody it. Being a vapid skin drenched beefhead is tantamount to being an obnoxious “skate-or-die-even-though-I-bike” beachbum. It proves that you would have no personality with a city to justify it. I think if he was rocking a King Stampede hat or a Mighty Healthy hat you’d be singing a different story. But fans are fans I suppose, and it would be a little rude if he wore your shit and you just turn around and spout the truth about his lack of originality and unrelenting annoyance. I’ve heard children slaughtered to a more melodious tone than Post-Acid.

  21. My Pal the Crook Says:

You got it dude, I’m totally ride or die for this cause he’s wearing a Mishka hat!

Again if all you hear is Blink 182, you’re not listening. Keep rocking those blinders!
