Kurdt Season: I’m a Negative Creep and I’m a Drain You!

It’s that time of the year again. The 3 or so months where I listen to nothing but Nirvana over and over and over and over again. Holiday Season is for lovers and suckers, Kurdt Season is the celebration I look forward to most every year.

In my internet spelunking expeditions, I came across the digital nekurdtnomicon of Youtuber, Curmodgeon, and unlocked the harrowed sounds from the ghost of Kurdt Season’s past. Join me in my findings. Don’t be a dick.

Stain (1990) - Live at Bogart’s in Long Beach, CA

Chad Channing or not, these dudes are in a stoned groove right about now. Can you imagine seeing them in some shithole in the LBC? And also, holy shit. This sounds just like the recorded version.

Negative Creep (1990) – Live at The Mason Jar in Phoenix, AZ

I love this bonehead Melvins riff. One of the best. When was the last time you listened to Bleach? Go put it on right now, duder! Look at Krist managing with a bum guitar strap! Did you know he was born in Compton? Me neither.

Drain You (1993)Live at Bayfront Amphitheater in Miami, FL

Hey, I was at this show! It was insane and dangerous. I love the kind of northwest croon Kurdt applies to the verse. Like he’s an ol 49′er singing on his decaying porch. Fuck I miss this guy… so bummed, still. You see that guy fist pumping and clapping the whole time on the left side? I feel just like him every time I hear this song. Maybe I’m actually looking at me in the crowd. Nah, I would never do that at a concert.

Remember when they released, “You Know You’re Right” a few years ago and how an old Nirvana track like that was still the best song on the radio? Today’s twenty year olds were barely alive when Nirvana was around. But some of their parents saw them live. Think about that.
