You Should be Listening to… Egyptian Hip Hop

Despite their name, Egyptian Hip Hop have nothing at all to do with Hip Hop nor are they Egyptian. This Manchester quartet has started gaining buzz for themselves over in the UK with a fanatstic and soulful brand of electro-pop that is one part the fun Nü Rave of the Klaxons, another the smooth and catchy AM pop of Phoenix and as with most up and coming UK bands there’s always some nod back to 80s post-punk somewhere in there.

The band have been kicking about for just over a year now and formed while still in High School. I’m actually not sure if they’re still in high school or not, but judging from the photo up above they may just be… they all look pretty damn young to me!

Despite their young age, Egyptian Hip Hop have quite a knack at writing catchy tunes. Earlier this year Pure Groove issued the bands debut single  for “Wild Human Child” (video above) backed by “Heavenly” which are available digitally. On Monday, September 20th the band will get their first proper record release of their brand new EP, Some Reptiles Grew Wings via Moshi Moshi. Maybe you already caught the highly infectious and awesomely titled “Rad Pitt” making teh rounds? Well the new EP is 4 fun and airy tracks (one of which is an instrumental) guaranteed to get trapped in your noggin’.

Currently the band seem to only be touring the Europe and the UK but I have a feeling once we approach 2011 these guys will have made a bigger name for themselves stateside. Keep an eye on them!
