Neon Indian’s Highway to the Danger Zone
Though we’re still waiting patiently for Neon Indian’s follow up to debut Psychic Chasms, these two awesome remixes from impressively named Com Truise should tide us over for a bit. Truise, an up and coming chillwave producer out of New Jersey (peep our glowing review of his EP Cyanide Sister), has given their track “Sleep Paralysist” two icy-as-hell remixes. They sorta sound like if The Junior Boys ate a bunch of acid and started rocking mad paisley.
The first one, titled “Disorder,” was just released through Mountain Dew’s Green Label Sound project. I know I shouldn’t trust Big Soda, but between this, some Wavves, and a new Theophilus London single, doin’ the dew has been pretty cool lately. “Disorder” starts off sounding like it’s gonna be an introspective deconstruction of the track, but ends up exploding into a big dancefloor jam. Propelled on by buoyant, shimmering synths, the whole song is presided over by a multitude of digitized voices repeating the mantra “don’t sleep”. Let the dancing commence. Give it a listen below.
The second remix, “Eyelid,” is available for free download from Neon Indian’s website. Here Com Truise shoves his obvious ’80s influences to the forefront and it’s awesome. This ain’t chillwave, this is just full on new wave. Super futuristic staccato keyboards leave ample room for Alan Palomo’s spacey vocals. Then about halfway through, the mix drops out for a second and then grinds back to life like 100 times larger. It sorta reminds me of that part near the end of “Windowlicker” where shit gets all real for a minute.
All in all it’s more great stuff from Com Truise. Head over to his website, where he’s posted a bunch of new tracks. Looking forward to more good stuff from both these guys in the future.
