After putting together a Riot Grrrl Friday Morning Videos last night, then posting up my review of Sara Marcus’ new book Girls To The Front, I think it’s fate that I encountered this video today. Just makes sense to form a power triangle of Kathleen Hanna awesomeness here on the Bloglin. Here’s a video of her performing in the Our Hit Parade show at Joe’s Pub two nights ago.

I had always heard the story about how she was responsible for the song’s title, having scrawled it on Kurt’s wall with sharpie at some point. But I had definitely never heard the story in the hilarious, extremely candid detail on display in this video. She then covers the song, and throws in a little extra bonus of Bikini Kill classic Rebel Girl. Basically this video fucking rules hard.

Also, you should check out Our Hit Parade if you haven’t already. It’s this monthly show at Joe’s Pub where different artists come in and perform the Billboard Top Ten Pop Songs of the month. They get a bunch of cool people to come in, including my friend Eytan Mirsky (who does Todd Solondz’s soundtracks), and, well, fucking Kathleen Hanna. It’s cool.
