W3 R the R0B0T5 : The Animatronics of o . o துஈசிதிசி

I am rarely moved to H0LY SH1T status, but the music of David Atlas has officially changed my address. Releasing under at least two different names on Soundcloud (I suspect others as well) this robotics student creates sounds that make every molecule in my body shudder with excitement. As a student of artificial cognition he scientifically unravels the scripts and circuitry that make our human brain work. Musically, he pretty much does the same.

This is post-Dilla/post-Jason Forrest cut and paste. Beyondo in fact. Destructo in theory. It seems like any genre is fair game, just as long as Atlas can punch sounds in and out and create a pastiche of Man Machine kunstwerk that baffles as well as pleases the ears.  His pages are filled with rhetoric so insane and inspiring that it should be on a bottle of Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Soap.  His mission statement pretty much sums it up:

If I had to state a philosophy, it would be that there are infinitely many songs in any two second clip of audio. and twice that many if the clip has significance to your life.

His music can range from twisted and drag drag mixes of Spanish love songs, to just weird remixes of Klezmer music and just about everything in between. This isn’t your normal witchy affair though, and it is obvious that his music has been attracting the attention of people interested in all sorts of challenging and avant garde composition.

I have already found a tremendous amount of his work on the page for Sifka Kong.  Other pages you are just going to have to search for yourself, I will not take all the fun away. His unicode is almost as massive as his music and the audaciously coded eL337 logos are pretty much indecipherable. Thankfully, he spells it all out in human lettering for those of us who aren’t his robots.

Or are we????
