Action Bronson Hunts The Most Dangerous Game
There’s a new rapper-eater in town and he goes by Action Bronson. The bearded psychopath straight murders the mic, in addition to a helpless female victim, with the slick demeanor of a well-trained, repeat offender. The video for his song “Brunch,” a single off his recent full-length Dr. Lecter, breaks out from behind bars and pounces at your jugular with a calm fury of rhymes executed with expertise timing and ripping, homicidal urges.
Jazzy, soulful samplings backdrop Bronson’s rhythmically calculated flows as the deadly plot unfolds before our very eyes. Bound, gagged, and unconscious, the pretty little victim becomes food for worms at the hands of the maniacal emcee as he simultaneously regurgitates verses as if it were second nature. Bred from the underground and having literally crawled out from under a rock, the rapper is engineered to destroy, not unlike some other killers I know…cough, cough, us.

You know, I’m not okay with this. Why is it people cling to the idea that outright misogny is somehow “underground”? Hatin’ women has been mainstream and marketable basically forever.

Dude, you might have missed the point of why he is doing these things in this video, his album is called Dr. Lecter. Dr. Lecter went in on his victims, what’s the point of naming album that if he don’t go off the theme. People watch TV and movies that the same themes as this all the time. Be fun don’t be so serious. Also I don’t think he gives a fuck if you call him mainstream or underground either, shit like that is irrelevant.

There’s a line between telling a story (a la Silence of the Lambs) and being exploitative for shock value. I’m sayin’ this falls on the side of the latter. I don’t dislike dude’s music, but it gets to me when I see the same messages re: the disposability of women in our culture repeated for basically as long as I’ve been aware of them. It’s hard enough to parse hateful shit in the music I like without having to be beaten over the head with it outright.

The guy spits hard, he’s good. But all I could see in terms of the vide was Tyler, The Creater’s “VCR”. I almost felt like he was playing it extra safe since rape is where it’s at right now in rap.

FIRST of all Alex yer GAY-
SECOND of all why is it that every time a hip hop discussion takes place these days some lil fukin know it all flavor of the month wagon hopper has to bring up Tyler the (OVERRATED) Creator… listen i get “hes a kid!!!” “he makes all his own music” ooooooooH!!!! But if this kid didn’t look the way he looked or dress the way he dressed he would be touring with Tech N9ne somewhere in Spokane Washington-
THIRD and last of all Bronson restores my faith in hiphop, he takes it back to when you could be proud of the shit you listened to. Especially with all the soft shit saturating the market these days… It comes from a real love of real music!!!!!
OH! and uh just to reiterate, Alex yer GAY!
