Мишка Presents the Trouble & Bass 5 Year Anniversary Art Show
On Friday, September 16, 2011, Brooklyn’s world-renowned Trouble & Bass crew celebrates five years of heavy bass mayhem with an art show in collaboration with our 350 Broadway store/gallery space. The show will feature original interpretations of the Trouble & Bass aesthetic by some of the globe’s most-cutting edge artists, including The Zonders, Aerosyn-Lex, L’Amour Supreme, Overthrow, Healeymade, and Droon.
This show is a celebration of a long-standing partnership between the brand and Trouble & Bass, whom we have sponsored since their first party in a rag-tag space under the JMZ tracks. Since that time, Trouble & Bass have become the undisputed heavy bass champions of the world, a monster crew running crazy parties and a chart-topping record label, while we have become the ne plus ultra of innovation in the streetwear realm.
Many of the artists featured in this show have worked with T&B before, in the form of record covers, flyers, videos, and one-of-a-kind events. The event will be followed by an epic five-year anniversary party at East Village mega- club Webster Hall, featuring T&B founder Drop The Lime’s live band, London’s dubstep powerhouse DJ Plastician, plus AC Slater, Star Eyes, The Captain, and more special guests. The artshow will feature complimentary Bushmills whiskey, Prometheus Springs and Redbull so come with your ID, there will be fun to be had for all your senses!
Zonders
The mysterious German outfit Zonders applies a dark, surrealist, and ’80s-inspired flash to everything they touch, from bleeding-edge t-shirts to posters to album artwork for the likes of Drop the Lime, Anoraak, DJ Mehdi, and Bloody Beetroots.
Aerosyn-Lex
Trying to list the accomplishments of this ringleader of global design society The KDU would make your head spin, but whether he’s working for Hennessey, Nike, or Playboy, appearing in the pages of Los Logos or Dazed & Confused, or designing the searingly bold cover art for Trouble & Bass’ chanteuse Little Jinder, Lex’s handiwork is always the freshest thing around.
L’Amour Supreme
Considered a don in the designer toy universe, this supreme lover is a jack-of-all-trades, not only creating custom kaiju figures for Мишка and Super 7, but also illustrating comics and designing album covers and along the way getting kudos from the legendary Pushead himself. Did we mention this NY native is also an amazing airbrush illustrator, fixie rider, and possessor of the most Positive Mental Attitude of nearly anyone in the streetwear world? Is there nothing he can’t do?
Overthrow
From the dark, decadent, and glamorous underbelly of Miami, Florida comes Overthrow, a secret organization helmed by Alexis “Lex” Mincolla, a man with a carnival barker’s moustache and a snake-headed cane with a knife in it. Overthrow is many things—a party, a record label, a clothing company—but most of all an outlet for Lex’s twisted and magickal fantasies.
Healeymade
If you have an overactive mind and you love action figures, you’ll understand where David Healey is coming from. The NYC toy designer creates new mods out of mashing together classic poseables from Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, and more. He also creates beautiful and bizarre pop art originals, from tree vampires to snake babies to raptors with machine guns.
Droon
Belgium-based Droon originally became known to us for throwing a wild series of punk tekno parties and festivals known as Breakcore Gives Me Wood. Droon still makes wild DIY rave music, and his graphic design is just as inspired, including record covers for Planet Mu, T&B, and Shitmat and amazing logos and flyers that could cause seizures in the faint of heart.
