Society Is Gone, Bow to the Lord of the Fly
The lyrical master of cubist bar snacks, Nacho Picasso, dropped one of our favorite mixtapes last year, For the Glory. One of the best parts of FTG was the production by Seattle duo Blue Sky Black Death, who were responsible for like 10 of the tracks. Lucky for us, they’ve reteamed with Nacho for a brand new collaborative mixtape, Lord of the Fly.
It just dropped so I haven’t had time to fully appreciate it, but from what I can tell Lord of the Fly is another fire release from the rising Pacific Northwest rhyme spitter. It’s also, thankfully, got the same Frazetta-on-lean cover art that has blessed Picasso’s releases thus far. Nacho has a ultra-slow delivery that works wonders with BSBD’s moody beats.
There’s even a video for first single “Naked Lunch”, and yes, at one point he does make reference to eating “brunch with a mantis” so Nacho definitely knows the score on this one. It’s a long, dare I say epic track that moves from a nostalgic story of Nacho’s youth to a gonzo (literally, he wears a Hunter S. Thompson) downward spiral of bizarro references.
If you needed any more proof that Nacho Picasso was a funny dude, look no further than him calling Orlando Bloom “Orlando Shrooms” because why the fuck not? The first two weeks of 2012 have been unnaturally crammed with good rap mixtapes. Let’s keep it coming.
