You’re Next Delayed Until Summer 2013. Knock It Off, Lionsgate
At last year’s Fantastic Fest I was able to attend the much hyped screened of Adam Wingard’s home invasion thriller You’re Next. Originally two screenings were scheduled, but Lionsgate purchased the rights to the film and cut one. Everyone lost their minds over the film, including me – you can read my review here. It was one of the most entertaining horror/thriller films I had seen in years and I couldn’t wait to share it with all of my friends and the Bloglin audience – who I just knew would love the shit out of it.
I guess you won’t be loving the shit out of it for another year though. Lionsgate announced today that they won’t be releasing the film until August 23, 2013. This move is frustrating and utterly baffling. Lionsgate recently had success with the The Last Exorcism and The Possession - both of which are not nearly as good as You’re Next. Cabin in the Woods (which Lionsgate saved after MGM went broke) was a critical success, but didn’t fare so well at the box office. That was after being shelved for three years. I hope being sat on for two doesn’t have the same effect on You’re Next.

Wouldn’t want to release it while there’s still actually some buzz going around. That would just be silly.
