Knoxville, Tenesse musician Persona La Ave makes some of the funkiest tunes around (if you don’t know Persona La Ave’s stuff and you’ve seen our friends Dark Sister play live you may have heard a rare song of theirs he produced…) and his new EP may be the grooviest yet. Temptation is 5 tracks of funk and R&B samples chopped up in really crazy ways.

Take track 3 “Make Your Luck” for instance. It starts by playing a vocal sample backwards (or at least it sounds backwards?) and then we get a beat of very upbeat keyboards and drums for a bit until a dude’s sampled voice comes in so chopped up it reminds me of Tim & Eric’s hilarious editing. That is, if Tim & Eric made awesome beats. The guy’s voice on “Make Your Luck” is saying “Feels Like I’m Going Insane!” which feels really fitting.

The whole EP is really fun, upbeat, and dance-y stuff. Temptation is not unlike the production of frequent Antwon collaborator DJ SexPlay. I’m glad guys like  Persona La Ave and SexPlay them are using that sound in new, cool ways because not only is it kind of a nostalgia thing, it also makes for some dope music.
