NYC! Your New Favorite Movie Opens This Weekend!

What better way to cure your NYC Halloween hangover than going to see a movie about a band of Taekwondo orphans take on cocaine dealing ninjas on the streets of Orlando?! I’ve gushed superlatives about 1987′s The Miami Connection on the Bloglin before and now’s your chance to see how right I’ve been!

The film follows the martial arts rock band Dragon Sound as they take on the cocaine-dealing ninjas and punks moving in on Orlando. There’s infectious musical performances, hilarious beach-mayhem, and heaps of ass-kicking rumbles fought by ACTUAL martial arts experts! NO CGI! NO WIRES! Just Taekwondo and raw, unadulterated friendship. It’s easily the most entertaining and sincere movie you’ll see in a theater this year. This movie makes Cloud Atlas have low self-esteem.

The Miami Connection is screening Friday Nov. 2 and Saturday Nov. 3 at the Landmark Sunshine (143 East Houston St.). These screenings are most likely going to sell out, so click on the dates above to get your tickets. Filmmaker, philosopher, and motivational speaker Grandmaster Y.K. Kim will be in attendance! There will even be merch for sale! You can get your own hand-made Dragon Sound tank-top and Dragon Sound 7″ featuring their entire discography!

It’s only screening for these two days, so make them count, NYC.
