Inspectah Deck joined 7L & Esoteric to release the title track off of their upcoming CZARFACE, set to be released on 2.19.2013, on Brick Records. To complete Deck’s reach into the pot of lyrical artists, the album will also feature Ghostface (Killa), Action Bronson, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Roc Marciano, Vinnie Paz, Cappadonna. There are beats from DJ Premier & Oh No, alongside production from 7L & Esoteric, with a cover by none other than our very own L’Amour Supreme.
Deck explains the monicker as follows : “We are CZARFACE because they know our faces and they know us for being dope rhyme suppliers, like Tony Montana we are known for our balls and our word; lyrically we will conquer the world and everything in it”. The statement boils down to the idea that Deck and his partners are directing a tape around lyrical abilities. This album’s ability to revert to practiced ideals will be a challenge if it stands to take the chances Deck seems to say it will.
These days, fitting this form of rap may be an artistic risk for those trying to appeal to a wide audience. With the list of Futures, Chief Keefs, and Two Chainz (who’re talented in their own right) leading the current school of rap thought, calling on reminiscent beats and “cypher raps”, breaks the common mold. Many artists separate themselves from the virtuoso style as much as possible. This album seeks to do a 180 in order to make a statement about the prevailing tones currently emerging in rap, by reviving certain aspects of the virtuoso style.
Inspectah Deck, 7L, Esoteric, and Action Bronson take this gamble on the featured track below. The beat booms and baps with a restricted variety of drums and cymbals. Listen to how the emcees use this beat to raise the dead with raps that sneak their ways under listeners’ dark hoods. Cypher style.
