While we all thought Ziggy Stardust had fallen from “Ashes to Ashes“, we were all wrong. David Bowie is back, and just as good/weird as ever. Let’s remember that Bowie is 66 years old and is still giving artists forty years his junior a run for the title. His new video for the “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” is pure art. It features Oscar winner (and possible vampire) Tilda Swinton, as Bowie’s wife and Floria Sigismondi as their androgynous neighbor, channeling Thin White Duke era Bowie. The video also features a fair amont of androgynous sex. For a good portion of the video, I wasn’t sure who was what, but the idea is pure art. It reminded me of some sort of avante garde film that might be in French, made by Luis Bruñel or another surrealist filmmaker.

The song itself is also something that could’ve been on Bowie’s Hunky Dory. Bowie’s vocals sound close to perfection, it’s relieving to hear the return of Ziggy. His new album, The Next Day, is due next month!
