Who doesn’t love Mariah Carey? She’s the princess of pop music—sorry Mariah, Beyonce is queen—and can sing in that range that only dolphins and dogs can hear. I can tell you “Touch My Body” was a classic in 7th grade. When Sweater Beats issued a remix of that classic Mariah, I was stoked. Imagine Mariah’s voice pitched up an octave, with a delicately warm and synthy beat flowing underneath. Imagine scientists finding an underground river of hot chocolate flowing underneath your house. it’s like that.
Sweater Beats does Mariah justice in his rendition of “Touch My Body” by making it more of a perennial junior high school dance fave. The beats are dreamy as fuck, and Sweater Beats adds a layer of Mariah’s vocalizations on top of the chorus. I literally feel like I’m seeing stars when I hear the combination of Mariah’s smooth vocals and Sweater Beat’s chill vibes. The song is especially sick when Mariah’s original pitch is mashed with the prosthetic higher one and a male voice.
