There is something about color that really inspires me to create more. If anyone knows how to use color in the right way it is Kehinde Wiley. I had the pleasure of seeing his first major exhibition at Jewish Contemporary Museum in San Francisco: The World Stage: Israel.
When first walking into the gallery I was amazed at how vibrant each individual piece was. The scale, detail, and in your face compositions had me memorize. The color palette that was chosen for each painting seemed to be planned out perfectly to make your eyes vibrate.
One thing that ruined the show for me was learning that Kehinde just paints the portraits and has a team that paints the background for him. Even though the portraits were my favorite part, it turned me off. I understand the whole quantity aspect, but I’ve always been one to say “Quality over quantity.”
Beside the whole reproduction spiel, I highhhllyy recommend you go and see it for yourself. Images on the Internet don’t even do it justice, so if you have the opportunity to see Kehinde Wiley in person, you go!!!- L4DY H4UK
