A major and definitive name in the weird, but entirely compelling beat game, is the innovative and electrifying Hot Sugar. Hot Sugar is well known for his his animated internet presence, quality videos and solo projects featuring prominent independent rappers—check Midi Murder as a perfect example. Besides making addictive beats, Hot Sugar stands out for sampling various household products and other unlikely sources, transforming them to the skeleton for his sonic Frankenstein’s monsters.
On his untitled newest song, he makes it seem like you’re underwater while climbing to the top of Donkey Kong’s tower. Dodging barrels, while wondering, what the fuck is a giant ape doing underwater? How will this sit with the shark population? The cool thing here is that the whole submerged 90s video game, is created by an underpass in Texas. Unexpected as fuck. The man literally recorded his very pedestrian surroundings, to transport us to a vividly unreal local. Fucking crazy. John Cage and
Hirokazu Tanaka are real proud.
