The Death Grips Home Video Series
Hip hop, noise, punk extremists, and dick pick purveyors Death Grips, have revealed their experimental filmmaking side. They’ve released a five part series called “No Hands” that mixes their music with footage of various objects. In the style of Luis Bruñel and Salavador Dali’s Un Chien Andalou, the film doesn’t make “literal” sense. Your mom will not watch this and ask you to put Death Grips on her iPod. However, if you’re baked out of your mind, or the type of person that really gets David Lynch films, this is gonna be your new shit.
In the fourth and fifth part, however, the concepts switch up from abstract to things that could potentially “make sense”. Part four explores percussion from what I would assume is Zach Hill‘s perspective. Part five, on the other hand, begins with a patterned trippy black and white animation before zooming into a sector of the initial image. Each video is a minute and five seconds, and unfortunately we do not hear any grunts from MC Ride. This series is as close as Death Grips will ever get to a Hype Williams directed, mid 90s Bad Boy video. Really got a shiny suit era vibe during part six, right before I slipped into an epileptic seizure.
