Half-twerk, quasi-juke, ultrarave is way popular right now; but because of that, it’s really difficult to make that sound pop off anymore. That’s not to say that the latest from M.I.A. doesn’t make me wanna sweat a whole lot in some foggy warehouse in the middle of the daytime, but it’s just, I dunno…
Not only is the Middle East trope-card being played again, it’s also the fact that the Internet did this entire music video first, okay?
The purple filters, the Arabic script, the lasers, the fog, the warehouse rave setting, the gold-foil overlay effect, that pink post-twitterpunk hairstyle. I dunno how much longer I can handle it. It’s all nearing the critical juncture when the underweb, weirdo, scene scions begin to let go, get bored, and second-hand the foundations of their creativity onto the Majors. I can get down to the new M.I.A. vid, but I’m also yawning pretty hard on the inside.
All that being said, I’m sure I’ll be dancing to this later in the week.- CrimeZone20xx
