Actual Pain Fall ’10 In-Store Today w/ A Performance by King Dude from 7-8pm!

Monday, August 30th, 2010

So think of this as a “release party” of sorts for the Fall 2010, Actual Pain collection called Mystery Faith. Tees, Tanks, Crews, Hats… all that Satanic goodness you’ve come to expect and love from Actual Pain is alive and well in the newest collection. As with all Actual Pain collection, we have a limited stock and the brand has a pretty die-hard fan base. This shit will not stick around for too long in-store. You can expect an online drop sometime later this week.

And while the graphics are amazing and evil as always you should really take a look through the Mystery Faith lookbook which is pretty awesome in it’s own right! Keep scrolling to the right to see the entire thing.

And the icing on the cake is that King Dude, AKA T.J. Cowgill who is “Actual Pain” will be doing a very special in-store performance later this evening at our shop. T.J. strips down to his voice and acoustic guitar and channels some dark and haunting neo-folk with a heavy focus on knowledge and faith. Luciferian light and spirituality beyond the confines of a strict monotheistic reasoning are just some of the heady topics.

The show will run from 7-8pm and we ask that you arrive on time as space is limited. If you’d like to attend, please RSVP to rsvp@mishkanyc.com. Please note that entry will work on a first come first served basis via the RSVP list. We also welcome you to take pictures, shoot video and/or record the show for your blogs/sites. We simply ask that you inform one of our employees that you will be doing such before hand.

Head here for more details. We look forward to seeing you and hail the black triangle!

Recap: Titties of Great Acclaim! <3 U Ryan, Ellen & Justine!

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

This Australian magazine I never heard of put my pally, Ryan Keely, on the cover along with her pally, Justine Joli. The photos were taken by everyone’s favorite smutster, Ellen Stagg.

Ellen looks and is named like a tall, beautiful elf.  She is so blonde and tall and light skinned and has a totally slammin’ elf bod.  Also she is good at things. Ellen, let’s go on a date.

This dude showed up with Starter sneakers. I didn’t even know these things existed.

The Vidiot found this awesome pin with ice cream on it on the way to the party. I haven’t been served a heaping mound of ice cream in a dish like that in years.

“What’s that?  You like my ice cream button?  Tee hee hee!” The Vidiot has the personality of a Japanese tween girl.

Dita Von Teese was there serving drinks. I never forgave her for breaking Marilyn Manson’s heart.

This hot piece of chicken was there showing off her love of worms. There’s a movie in this, I think.  ”Must Love Worms.”

These guys. I like these guys.

This guy, I like him too. It’s Benjamin Marra, maker of so many good comics including Gangsta Rap Posse and Night Business. He also did the album art for Lil B recently and some other rap album covers. Dude rules and is not a pussy, which is refreshing in the comics world.

It was cool to find out that he was also in this magazine. He’s getting hit up by every rapper to do the art for their damn mixtapes. If you want Marra to do your art then you have to be prepared to pay.

Ryan’s got a huge fucking tongue. She’s like Gene Simmons but way creepier.

Beget the Apocalypse! King Dude Performs In-Store @ 350 Broadway

Friday, August 27th, 2010

On Monday, August 30th Disaro records and Chronic Youth will be presenting an intimate performance by Seattle’s King Dude at our shop. King Dude is the solo Apocalyptic Folk project from T.J. Cowgill. Cowgill  is a former member of Teen Cthulu but is probably best known as the vocalist for Pacific Northwest Black Metal behemoths, Book of Black Earth along with being the mastermind behind clothing line Actual Pain.

With his newest creative outlet Cowgill strips down to his voice and acoustic guitar and channels some dark and haunting neo-folk with a heavy focus on knowledge and faith. Luciferian light and spirituality beyond the confines of a strict monotheistic reasoning are just some of the heady topics.

Cowgill describes King Dude by saying “My music is the music of the world, of nature, of the devil, of love and destruction. I think it speaks to everyone equally no matter who they are because the light bringer is in us all, awake or waiting to be awakened.” Truly dark and beautiful compositions that fans of bands like Death In June, Sol Invictus and Current 93 will instantly fall in love with.

King Dude’s past releases include a limited cassette entitled My Beloved Ghost on Bathetic Records. A 7″ entitled “The Black Triangle” on Clan Destine Records and his just released debut CD-R for Disaro entitled Tonight’s Special Death.

Store Spotting: Staying Teminally Chill w/ Neon Indian!

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Neon Indian is in town this week for their huge show on Governors Island later today. Alan (pictured above with guitarist Ronald Gierhart) and the band dropped by the shop for some new gear and to chat up the crazy year they’ve been having! Neon Indian’s debut album, Psychic Chasms just keeps getting bigger and bigger and we were honored that Alan chose to wear a Мишка sweater for one off his main promo shots to support the album!

On August 31st, The Fader will be re-releasing Psychic Chasms as a deluxe edition which will include a bonus disc called Mind Ctrl: Psychic Chasms Possessed. That disc will feature nine bonus tracks of exclusive remixes and covers by Toro Y Moi, DNTEL, Bibio, Javelin, YACHT and more.

As I mentioned above, Neon Indian will be playing a free show at The Beach @ Governors Island later today (Saturday, August 14th). They’re headlining a bill featuring Prefuse 73, DOM and Nite Jewel. Doors are at 6pm and the show will get started around 8pm. The show is all ages and it’s going to be a good one. You have my word!

Store Spotting: Str8 Killin’ It With Freddie Gibbs!

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Gary, Indiana’s finest, Freddie Gibbs dropped by 350 Broadway this past Sunday along with Terrell Blair who was interviewing Freddie for an upcoming Hoodlife Cyphas DVDs. It was pretty awesome to have Gibbs drop by the shop, I haven’t been this excited over an emcee in…well, I can’t remember when. Dude is  mad grimey throwback to late 90s hood raps without sound like some 90s revivalism at all.

Gibbs has been getting praise for his brand new EP, Str8 Killa everywhere from here to there. If you haven’t gotten a hold of it yet, get to it! Or at the very least go download his free Str8 Killa, No Filla mixtape which was also released recently.

Check out the video for “National Anthem (Fuck the World)” and tell me that isn’t the catchiest and gulliest hip hop anthem in a minute!? By the time dudes full length drops he’s going to be H-U-G-E. Mark my words.

Steady Peddlin’: Keep on Watching!

Keep Watch New Era Fitted ($45.00 $27.00 )

The Keep Watch New Era has become pretty ubiquitous for us. People and stores demand new ones each and ever season and who are we to argue? I know some people tend to “poo-poo” carrying over graphics or styles as lazy, and while “yes” there have been points I would have loved to give the eyeball a rest… the truth is people kept asking for it. New fans, old fans you name it, they all wanted one. And in the end it’s kind of cool to have created something so iconic (even if it is just an eyeball) to so many people. What’s even more surprising is that this has become such a big hit without a major rapper or band wearing it in a video unlike some other styles… at least I think no one of notoriety has ever worn one?

This Summer we did the Keep Watch in three of my favorite colorways E-V-E-R!* This Summer we kept all the Keep Watches with contrasting brims from the crown, and that’s one of my favorite cap looks. There’s the great Cyan/Green number with, then there’s the Yellow/Black one loosely inspired by the Pittsburgh Pirates (or 80s-90s Penguins), and finally the cool and crispy White/Red one up above. I think that white one is my favorite because it not only looks clean and classic, it also has the original blue iris and red vein Keep Watch eyeball on the crown.

In case you haven’t noticed, most things are now 40% off in our shop, these caps included! And while the size selection is limited, those of you with big or small enough heads will walk away with one of these for a song.
