Hitting the Dirt with Darryl Nau

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Since moving to Austin, I’ve become submerged in the BMX culture. Hell, if you’re into cycling and live here, it’s hard not to. With House Park and 9th Street within a half a mile of each other, you don’t have to go far to spot a real ripper. Darryl Nau is a NY’r most of the year but he’s finding himself here in Austin more and more. Whether he’s throwing a party after an event or throwing some mean tables in the dirt, Darryl’s becoming a fixture here. Last Friday, I met up with him and some other riders and shot photos. Here are the choice cuts.

Prolly Visits the Philly Bike Expo

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

… and I shot a whole lotta photos of bikes. Last weekend was the 2011 Philly Bike Expo. Builders from all over came to display their latest and greatest creations. I hung out with friends, shot the shit and picked up my slick, custom Icarus track bike. Here’s just one photo, you can see more here. And speaking of Icarus, I also shot photos of Chris’ killer Icarus road bike. There were a ton of beautiful bikes at the expo, including a few from Chris Bishop, like this fixed gear and this monster road bike.

There’s a whole lot more coverage from the Philly Bike Expo over on my blog. Go check it out!

One Spot with Tom LaMarche

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

One of the things I try to focus on when shooting photos of my friends riding their bikes is the atmosphere and context. Sure, you can post a photo of a rider blasting a hip but without context, it lacks impact. Telling a story and setting a mood through a series of photos isn’t easy but I think I captured that in a recent photo shoot with my friends Tom, Beans and Tony in Philly at this well-known Germantown spot.

Check out the photo set here and don’t miss out on my exclusive video featuring Tom for Specialized!

Boobies and Bicycles [NSFW]

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

What better way to encourage people to ride bikes than to put a bunch of naked chicks on them? No, wait. What did I say? Ah fuck it, here’s a bunch of topless women on high-tensile steel, rainbow “fixies.”

Loose Legs Road Ride!

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

Before the 2011 NACCCs here in Austin, I organized a road ride to loosen everyone’s legs up and show them a simple loop around the hill country. A quick rain shower made the roads dangerously sketchy, forcing some people home and others to slide across the asphalt. About 20 showed up to the ride and only 9 hung out till the end.

35mm Photos from the day can be found here:

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

This weekend brought the 2011 North American Cycle Courier Championships to Austin, Texas. Year after year, the NACCC brings the messenger community together to a host city to compete for glory and get wasted. But all the drinking in the world couldn’t shake the competitive edge from the racers. For over 4 hours each day, the top men and women competed for glory! Shouts to everyone who was in town for this. It was a blast! For more coverage, head over to Prolly is Not Probably!
