I found this vid by NEW FE∆R a couple days ago, and almost posted about it because it breaks my heart to see talent that fresh go unnoticed with only like 300 video views. They’ve got a decent following on Soundcloud, though, which I was perusing while keeping that vid on repeat. And what did I find? What lustrous gem of incomprehensible value did I uncover, buried amongst tongue-in-cheek Disney-themed, icy-cool aether beats?

A fucking SPARK MASTER TAPE EDIT OF “AMBER ROSE PUSSY”

Halfway across the globe, some ultratalented Belarussian is hip to Spark Master Tape’s brand of surrealistic mystery rap (nobody knows who he is, what he looks like, or where he’s from). See, the internet can also be used for an immeasurable amount of good, too. Not just hiring hit men, buying meth, and asking Tumblr what the best way to hide the body is.

Hint: Always bury vertically, and underneath a dead animal. ;-)

Listen to the highly danceable edit below, then download it to one of the 10 USB drives littering your workspace and chuck it at the nearest DJ you can find. Tell them that it’s filled with magic, and that playing the track at the right time will make them famous. Fuck, just do anything to spread the word.

Quick, what’s the first thing you think of when I say ‘punk’? Sex Pistols? Los Angeles? Class of 1984? Mohawaks, denim vests; pins, patches, and zippers everywhere? A trio of black brothers making protopunk on the same level as The Stooges?

Wait what?

Yuuuuppppp. Death is one of those bands who refutes the lamentable stereotype of punk music being a predominantly white movement. Starting out as an R&B group, the boys reportedly switched direction after seeing an Alice Cooper show. Their sound was on that protopunk tip; preceding the harder, faster, more angst-ridden sound that would materialize in the years following their first full-length release, …For the Whole World to See.

The band finally gained a following more than thirty years after being active. And going along with their newfound (and deserved) resurgence in popularity, is a documentary centering around the group. A Band Called Death traces their history, and the discovery of master tapes simply hidden away and forgotten in an attic.

A must-watch for anyone into punk, Detroit, death, destruction, parties, music history, skateboarding, and general mayhem; A Band Called Death is now available through iTunes and onDemand. For the cinephiles out there, the documentary will be touring small theaters throughout the summer.

This week we’ve got another great juxtaposition of good style and good photography, which in case you haven’t been following Freaky Stylee for the past few weeks is almost always a TKO when it comes to winning.  I’m dubbing this  The “Rhymes With Nifty” Screenwrite because Liam is studying screenwriting and uses a word that “Rhymes With Nifty” over and over again in his answers like it was going out of style…who knows, maybe it is? Or maybe it was just the answer for 23 down?

Describe your style? The Thrifty Spike Jonze. I like skinny ties and hitting up the Salvation Army on 4th Ave for good finds. But you can’t skimp on kicks…they’re like hubcaps. You see a nice ride with crappy wheels, it just ruins the whole picture.  But if you’ve got a shitty ride, throw some new wheels on it. It’ll probably look ridiculous but at least you’re owning it. Ill kicks are essential.

Looking out over the river is always conducive to some meaningful thinking… I wonder though if Liam is thinking about how to resolve a 3rd act or dropping out of school in that picture? If you want my 2¢ (and you’re going to get them regardless cause it’s my blog), don’t drop out of school to DJ. You can DJ and go to school, it ain’t that complicated to figure out how to do both. I know going to NYU poses the challenge of having the whole city distract you from your studies, but if you can figure out how to juggle both you’ll be all the better for it in the future.
