Screw “it’s like,” This actually has80′s Stallone (the band not Sly actually in the 80s) remixing a Police Academy 6 (again the band, not the film) song! My god who thought of that remix pairing? Whoever you are, you’re a straight up retro chill genius. On a tangental note, Police Academy 6… New album please? But I digress…

28 BRAND NEW SONGS!! DOUBLE DISC CLASSIC! + FREE
I like that basedgod considers this a “double disc” release. But God’s Father and it’s 34 songs was a single play. Thankyou basedgod for the new weekend tunez.
The Raider Klan are quickly becoming a movement to be reckoned with and are on the verge of really blowing up now that Purrp signed with 4AD. They keep growing and keep progressing while at the same time bringing it back to a different era of southern hip hop that I grew up with. When I was in middle/highshcool, Joeybagadonutz and I waited for Tuesday to come every week to go buy all the new albums dropping that week.
We would wait for weeks for a certain album to drop and I would even sometimes buy something I never heard of just because of the features. Recently I’ve been feeling the same way about hip hop and I feel it’s because there is this underground movement of like-minded artists who tend to collaborate with each other frequently and are tapped into the same mindset.
Artists from all around the country are linking through the net, making real music, and it is giving me that old feeling again I’ve been missing with rap in the past few years. When I hear SpaceGhostPurrp and all the other raiderz like Amber London, Denzel, Simmie, Dough Dough, Yung Renegade, Mike Dece, Key Nyata, and probably a bunch of other raiders who I’m sure I forgot, it is giving me the same feeling I got back when classic 8ball & MJG, No Limit (Uhhhhhhhh!) and Three 6 Mafia were still underground.
Miami is on the rise big time! With Shuttle Life, Metro Zu, O’Grime, NoEmotion, SkunkApeGang and plenty others making a scene, plus big time players like Gunplay it is going down in South Florida!!! From Miami Shores to Carol City, Miami is a prime example of one section of this movement I’m talking about and it’s got me really excited about hip hop again!
This week we were fortunate to be blessed by a handful of fresh new tapes from Klan members such as Ethelwulf, Amber London, and Young Renegade in addition to a killer new track from Purrp aimed directly at the Trayvon Martin Tragedy. And if that’s not enough, Mike Dece’s debut is right on tap (post on that coming soon).
Lets talk about Amber London for a sec though. While there are a bunch of talented female rappers in the game that I could talk about, when I hear Amber London I get chills. She can hold her own in any cypher and has a flow that is hard to match. When I heard her first song on the tape rapping over a classic Dirty track — and straight kill it to say the least — I was very impressed and excited. Then every song after has been just as good as she grows as an emcee even singing on the hook of the 420 song. Raiderz have talent and she is just another piece to the Raider Klan puzzle, I only get more and more excited each new track I hear and pondering her future along with the Klan. Go get her OG Amber London EP RIGHT NOW!
Amber’s tape was also my introduction to Ethelwulf. This guy has one of the nicest flows and is very reminiscent of that early 90′s memphis hip hop. There’s some old Bone Thugz raps mixed with an Eazy-E attitude. I can see Ethelwulf often collaborates with Yung Raw, Chri$ Travi$ along with a few others but he’s still new to me and I’m digesting his output. Grab his 20-track The Wolf Gang’s Rodolphe (who’s entire second half is a Chopped ‘N Screwed version of the first 10 tracks) and take some time with all of his dope underground tracks on his youtube. You won’t be disappointed. I hope to see a lot more from him and friends down the road.
Rounding things up is No Emotions In Blvcklvnd from Young Renegade. Renegade really puts you into the mindset of living and growing up in the Blvcklvnd with his raw freestyles and his gritty yet laidback style. He also has help from his fellow Raiders -including Purrp along with appearances from Lowaletta & Mr. B the Poshtronaut. Klan Simmie even has a solo song on here as a bonus cut. If his new tape isn’t enough for you, head over to his YouTube page for more.
If you’re just now getting into the Raiderz world outside of Purrp, strap in and enjoy because it’ll take you on a serious musical adventure. SGP and the Raiderz weren’t playing around when they said they are bringing the 90s and phonk back.
The Doors and coke rap? Sure why not! I’m sure Jim Morrison would be choppin’ it up with Malice and Pusha-T if he were still alive… or at the very least coppin’ some from them (Young Jim liked coke as much as his hallucengens). While this mashup mixtape plays high on the novelty of the concept, it’s execution is also pretty solid. Much more so than say than Terry Urban’s Biggie x Lana Del Rey mashup, Born Ready to Die.
Keys Open Doors is brought to you by Frankie P and “concepted” by Christopher B. And I truly hope it was concepted on a mescaline high while riding the white pony through death valley. Seems only fitting right?
The chopped & screwed master OG Ron C just dropped his long awaited take on A$AP Rocky‘s smash hit debut Live.Love.A$AP., taking the already fire record to a whole new level of trill, throwing a thick and goopy layer of the purplest of sizzurps. It’s called Live Love Purple and it’s available now.
It’s got all of the albums original tracks, plus some remixes and freestyles featuring the rest of the A$AP Mob as well as SpaceGhostPurrp, Bun B and other cool beanz things like that. OG Ron C always kills it with his chopped up not slopped up takes on todays biggest bangers, and Live Love Purple should be no different. Super purple swag.
The Greedhead/Мишка Records world takeover continues, this time with another salvo from the bodaciously bearded baron of brainy braggadocio and one half of Das Racist, Victor Vazquez AKA Kool A.D. The Kool one is planning to drop his 51 mixtape on April 24th, the briskly arriving and much appreciated follow up to January’s The Palm Wine Drinkard.
For a change of pace, Victor recorded all of these tracks in Oakland, way on the other side of the country from DR’s NYC home base. Landing in Cali after visiting family in Cuba, Kool A.D. was inspired to make a set of tracks featuring production from almost exclusively West Coast artists, and featuring some of the Bay’s best up and comers.
The main producer is Amaze 88, who played with Victor in a hardcore punk band in high school, and also happened to take his sister to prom. They’ve obviously buried the hatchet on that one though as Amaze is behind seven tracks on the album, and is joined by other producers like Young L and Kech Phrase.
There’s also frequent guest spots from some of our favorites, like Mondre and Squadda from Main Attrakionz. They link up on four of 51‘s tracks, two of which are embedded above. There’s two more videos, for tracks “Damien Hirst (feat. Mondre M.A.N. & Dope G)” and non-album cut “Dum Diary” out now, with more to come soon. So get excited for Kool A.D.’s 51 mixtape, out April 24th on Мишка and Greedhead. Check the full tracklist after the jump!
Do we have any believers in the house? Any true believers? Show some respect for the Lil Boss! Lil B is up to his tricks again, releasing another brand new mix tape God’s Father. Mixtape is a bit of an understatement as it’s 34 tracks long and just shy of 2 hours but it is chock full of exactly what you would expect from the BasedGod. Tight, weird, raw, and wonky raps. Mad word associations and some impromptu singing.
The album art although simple, makes a statement with it’s content. Dude isn’t afraid to quote himself on the cover as “One of the most Revolutionary Artists in Music.” Pretty, prettay bold indeed. Oh Lil B! For more entertainment hit up the comments on the God’s Father Datpiff regarding said statement.
Everyone’s favorite mix series since 2008, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, is back with a brand new installment that’ll once again take you back in time to the glorious years that were the 90s. Some of our most popular and beloved mixes, the three prior RFUS have been epic nostalgia factories perfectly curated by Nick Catchdubs and Mr. Ducker. I’ll let Mr. Ducker take it from here:
One thing that the 1990s taught us is that it’s hard to keep a good franchise down, so like the creepy fisherman in I Know What You Did Last Summer, Nick Catchdubs & me, Mr. Ducker, are back with Radio Friendly Unit Shifter IV, presented as always by the volcano guys and girls at Мишка. This party mix brings together all the alternative sounds of the ’90s better than any radio station-sponsored reunion festival could (with or without a second stage).
Once again, Nick Catchdubs & I combined anti-anthems from the biggest space lord mothermothers, minor hits from major label stepchildren, and the most memorable cuts from one-and-a-half hit wonders. We even pulled out the single from that Primal Scream album with the neon confederate flag on the cover that everyone hates. And you know what? It jams. In-jokes and heavy tokes make it all go down smooth like mouthwash jukebox gasoline.
For further dispatches from my and Nick Catchdubs’ RFUS-related mindstates click here. Check out the full tracklist after the jump, and also be on the lookout for the Radio Friendly Unit Shifter zine, coming soon.
-Mr. Ducker
All three prior mixes have been recently reuploaded to our Soundcloud, and are easier to get than ever. Looking for a way to set any party off right? Well look no further than RFUS, RFUS ’09, and RFUS III. It’s been a long wait since the last one all the way back in 2010, but you better believe it was worth it.
Shame on me for sleeping on this record last week. Bad Whole Milk! Why u no post the Dallas Tha Kid mixtape? Sorry alterna-me I promise to never do you wrong again. Just don’t bring the hunger back… What were we talking about? Oh yeah, the new mixtape from Peel Off Crew member Dallas Tha Kid, No Valentine. It dropped last week, and I was listening to it all weekend.
You’ve already seen Dallas Tha Kid with eXquire, Goldie Glo, Heron, and DJ SicksentZ in our Lookbook teaser (and soon in our Lookbook…) and now you get the chance to enjoy a whole tape of his lovesick verses. In between ill beats from KenLo Craqnuqes, Chris-P, and more, Dallas and the rest of the Peel Off Crew go in on love and romance and whatnot.
