Retard Strength Some More

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Hey Everybody, Retard Strength, my foolishly named Thursday night party at the Flat  is coming around again this week. This is the seventh one and this time DJing with me are m’pals Thomas Morton from Vice, Cassie Ramone from the Babies and Vivian Girls, DIIV (formerly Dive) and Mikey Hodges from Pop Zeus.

It starts at 10pm at the Flat at 308 Hooper. It’ll be a real good time. Here are ten photos from last week’s party when I DJed with Alix Brown, Will Berman and Melissa Scaduto. It was going okay and then Bradford Cox, Cassie Ramone, Thomas Morton and Ben from MGMT showed up and DJed too. People were dancing all over and just having a good old time.

Anyway, that’s what it is like.

Stolen Souls: A Photography Show at 350 Broadway, This Friday

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Though soul thieves would seem to be a pretty obvious career progression for us, you’ll notice that Stolen Souls is actually something far better than us rending you from your eternal mortality without your consent. It’s a fantastically gorgeous photography show coming to 350 Broadway this Friday. In fact, it’s a group photo show, the very first one we’ve ever hosted. Since our last Royce Bannon curated show, While You Were Sleeping, did so well, we decided to let him take the reins again for Stolen Souls.

Putting together his list of 13 artists, Royce focused on finding creators “who are skilled at capturing their subjects at just the right moment, without using parlor tricks and manipulation like Photoshop.” The title of the show, of course, refers to the old idea that the camera lens can seize the soul of its subjects. Pretty metal. From Don Morris to Last Witness, Russell King to Jazzmine Beaulieu, and 9 others, the walls of 350 Broadway will be chock full of images beautiful, bizarre, and everything in between. See you there, and hit the jump to check out the full list of artists.

Win Tickets to The Hood Internet In NYC Tonight!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Just yesterday we posted up the brand new Hood Internet Mixtape, and now we’re giving away some free tickets to their show tonight! What is this beautiful dreamland? All you have to do is head over to Decon’s Facebook page here, and enter the contest. It’s an app! Future! They’ll announce the winner of two shiny Hood Internet tickets at 6PM, just in time for their show at Irving Plaza with Star Slinger. Sweet baby jesus that sounds fun. Especially because of the secretive (not any more!) presence of a certain fantastic AMC show.

You may have noticed yesterday that the cover of the new mixtape was a shout out to the incomparable Breaking Bad. You may also know that comedian Paul Scheer has been running a BB fan site recently called BreakingGifs. If you were a LOST fan, you’ll remember that Scheer did a similar thing for that show which ended up being a very clever viral campaign. Seems the same thing is happening here, and according to BreakingGifs the first clue leads straight to the Hood Internet show tonight! Mysterious. So get out there and win some damn tickets. Bitch.

The Hood Internet Are Ready To Break Bad On Your Speakers

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Perennial Мишка favorites and mashup masters The Hood Internet are always prompt with the new material, and they’ve gone full Heisenberg for their latest release, The Mixtape Volume 6. As you probably could have guessed, this is the sixth installment of their classic free mixtape series where they take all the biggest and best hip hop hits and throw’em in a bunsen burner with everything from Rustie to Ford & Lopatin.

ABX and STV SLV have a track record that’s pretty much flawless, and includes releases for Мишка like Trillwave 1 & 2, the upcoming collaborative project Toothy Wavy, and of course their self-titled album of original production and remixes. In addition to this release, The Hood Internet is also looking to drop another real live album on the world later this year.

The release of The Mixtape Volume 6 was timed to coincide with the beginning of their country spanning tour with Star Slinger, appropriately called the Hood Slung Tour which starts tonight in Rhode Island and ends May 25th in my home town of Santa Barbara, CA. That’s some manifest destiny type shit right there.

Seeing The Hood Internet live is real treat, so I suggest you try to make it out to one of these dates, especially since you’ll be hearing brand new material from both artists. To get hyped up, be sure to put The Mixtape Volume 6 on repeat!

Last Friday, 350 Broadway Supplied The Partying

Monday, May 7th, 2012

We hadn’t had an instore performance at 350 Broadway since all the way back in March, which is practically a millennium in internet time (you guys all live on that, right?) but now we’re feeling right as rain because Party Supplies came in last Friday night and threw down right proper with the power of his MPC. The store is small so we can’t pack just everyone in, but don’t worry because cyberspace provides us with an unlimited capacity!

Nicky Digital was there to take some pictures which you can use to manufacture some nice artificial memories about your own attendance that may or may not have happened. Check out the full gallery over at Nicky Digital, and also remember to download Party Supllies & Action Bronson‘s excellent Blue Chips mixtape.

Who Wants To Win Some Flux Pavilion Tickets?!

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Hey New York! You feel like your schedule for this Thursday, May 10th, is severely lacking some heavy bass and sick drops? Want to win tickets to Flux Pavilion at Roseland Ballroom? Oh you know you do. Well that’s why we’ve cooked up this fun little contest. Tell us about what Мишка piece you’d wear to the show, and you’re eligible to win two tickets!

First you gotta be following @MishkaNYC and @FluxPavilion on Twitter and be able to pick up the tickets on Thursday from our 350 Broadway location. Your tweet should be in the following format: “I want to see @FluxPavilion at Roseland wearing (your chosen Мишка item) from @MishkaNYC #GetFluxed”  We’ll DM the randomly chosen winners (that’s right, there’s more than one!) at midnight on Wednesday, May 9th. Then – and this is key – when you come pick up your tickets on Thursday, make sure to wear the item you tweeted about. Make sense? Good luck, and see you at the show!

Abakus Is Turning Four and We’re In On The Fun

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Abakus, a great streetwear store located in Philadelphia, is celebrating it’s 4th anniversary this Saturday. That’s 4 whole spins around the sun! That’s how that works, right? In honor of this event, Abakus recruited 4 streetwear brands to design a collaborative tee shirt, that will be sold in super limited quantities at the event tomorrow.

I’ll give you one guess as to whether we were one of those brands. Actually I’ll give you no guesses. We were. You’ve already seen the shirt, it’s right there, just an inch or two above this. Cool, right? It also comes in black tie-dye. There’s only 50 of them, so get there early, go grab some free drinks, enjoy some DJs, and scoop up one of these one time only items!

Would You Like To Come To Retard Strength? You May.

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

You may be thinking to yourself,”I’d like to come one of these Retard Strength parties but am I cool enough” The answer is a resound,”Oh, no way!” No one is cool enough. We DJ for the ghosts of famous cool celebrities who are there in spirit. A skinny Marlon Brando, the ghost of Charles Manson, James Dean does the twist with Kurt Cobain. It’s like a monster beach party except it’s ghosts and it’s indoors. Those things were all complete fabrications. All you have to do to come is be over twenty-one and show up.

This Thursday I will be DJing with my rotating roster of celebrity pals. There’s Alix Brown, the sexy lady who was in the Angry Angles as well as Golden Triangle and currently plays bass in Bosco Delrey. Then there’s Will Berman who’s in Bosco Delrey as well but is also in MGMT. Then there’s Melissa Scaduto who plays music but is best known as a gadabout and barfly. We will be playing punk, garage, stuff like that. It’s Thursday at the Flat.

Here There Be Tigas and Ponytails

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Good morning Los Angeles! How’s it hanging over there on the West Coast? Basically the exact same weather we have over here, according to the internet.

Bahaha, what are you going to lord over us now, huh? Oh right, the fact that you can go to this awesome Check Yo Ponytail 2 show tomorrow night. Damnit. Foiled again…

The show is going to be headlined by Montreal dance music maestro Tiga, as well as house-head and Crosstown Rebels label head Damian Lazarus. The combination made my eyes bleed. In a good way.

Also present is Australia’s Light Year, who have also put together an awesome mix, “Freekno“, in anticipation of the event tomorrow night. And of course, as always, Franki Chan will be taking his turn on the decks as well. So check out the mix, and I’ll see you there tomorrow. Well, not me but… y’know.

Lamour Supreme Battles For Munny Supremacy!

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Everything is better if you make it a contest. You know when you’re trying to get somewhere and then someone tells you to slow down because it’s not a race? Ever notice how that person is also always the slowest person present? Yeah, they’re just trying to mindfuck you into not beating them. Competition breeds the very best in humanity. Just ask the Hunger Games kids. They all enjoyed that, right? I never really took the time to look how it worked…

Anyway, this Thursday Kidrobot NYC is hosting an epic Munny customization paint battle between Krink and Monster Kolor. K-words! In the Krink Korner will be Auks One and Mr. Munk, and fighting for Monster Kolor will be Homotrooper creator (and TV star!) The Sucklord as well as our very own Lamour Supreme. There will be a ton of custom toys, as well as lots of free giveaways. The gladiators didn’t have nothing on this.
