Store Spotting: El Producto Eyes Our Products

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

Man of the hour El-P recently stopped by our 350 Broadway Store to pick up that fresh jacket (which later made an appearance on national TV), taking a break from what has surely been an insanely busy couple of weeks for him.

After years of seeing him struggle with the various hardships that befell Def Jux, and just the whole ringtone rap era, it’s been – I think for everyone – deeply satisfying watching him get the recognition he deserves.

Especially with a duo of releases as strong as R.A.P. Music with Killer Mike and his own Cancer For Cure, El-P might – improbably enough – just be hitting his stride.

For more, check out our own Zachg’s recent interview with Mr. Meline, and also take a gander at some footage from the recent C4C release party at Santos.

Store Spotting: You Can’t Stop Flux Pavilion

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Our homie Flux Pavilion was in the States recently, stopping by NYC for an awesome show at Roseland Ballroom. While he was here he was nice enough to make an appearance at 350 Broadway with some friends, all of whom were supporting the Death Adder in all its different incarnations in full force.

This bleach top dubstep guru has only been getting better and more popular, not only in the UK but all over the world, especially after his hit “I Can’t Stop” was co-opted for a Watch The Throne beat. Essentially the ultimate co-sign.

He also met up for an interview with the team at ItsBongoBoy, and made a sartorial decision so simple and yet so awesome: rocking the Lamour Bomber inside out to show off Lamour Supreme’s insane lining design.

In all seriousness, how in the fuck had this not occurred to me? Is everyone else doing this and I’m just the last to know? Whatever the case may be, it’s certifiably wicked. Flux Pavilion: always innovating.

Store Spotting: K.E.V.O.R.K.I.A.N & Vogt Bro Down!

Monday, May 14th, 2012

This was a great visit that we had at the store: one of our prized loglin writers Nick Vogt was in town from Boston and Mr K.E.V.O.R.K.I.A.N from A Tribe Called Death was one day removed from getting hitched.

Both first time visitors to our LA digs, not to mention both dedicated Mopsters, we chopped it up about everything from music to the left coast, and comics, as well as checking out some new digs from the Summer ’12 collection.

Store Spotting: Shy Guy is Crakked Out

Sunday, May 6th, 2012

I was going to attempt to write this Store Spotting in a chopped & screwed style, but then I realized that would would be extremely difficult and almost certainly incoherent, but the point is it’s the thought that counts, so please imagine that this text is soaked in a heaping layer of purple syrup. Producer Shy Guy, one half of duo Crakk Nicholson, recently stopped by our 350 Broadway store with a leaned out gift.

No, it wasn’t cough syrup, but it was physical copies of his screw tape East Coast Screw Vol 1: Let My Timbs Do Purp, which we featured on the Bloglin a couple weeks ago. Appropriating the Southern remix style to transform some of the Big Apple’s best classics, Shy Guy went as far as to record this thing directly to his Dad’s circa 1980 cassette recorded for extra authenticity. So if you’re in 350 and are looking for a pretty purple experience, grab a copy of the CD!

Store Spotting: Chippy Nonstop Twerked On Echo Park

Monday, April 16th, 2012

I lost, like, 10-12 pounds this weekend just booty bouncing to Chippy Nonstop‘s new mixtape #Global School of Twerk. Seriously, just alone in my apartment. It was actually really embarrassing and sad. Do you guys want to be my friends?

Chippy’s mixtape really is just that good. Luckily for her, she was having a much more positive weekend, and stopped by our Echo Park store, perhaps on her way to Coachella or maybe just being awesome in general. For more on Chippy, look for her interview on the Bloglin tomorrow afternoon!

Store Spotting: Keyboard Kid & Darwin Evolve Cloud Rap

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

Cloud rap producer extraordinaire Keyboard Kid recently stopped by our 350 Broadway location with his fellow DJ Darwin. The two were in the city to perform as part of the Get Weird series at Manhattan’s New Museum. We’ve been super into this #Based icon’s beats for a minute now, and it was a real pleasure to have him in the store.

Having produced some of the best tracks for artists like Main Attrakionz, Western Tink, Soulja Boy, and, of course, Lil B, the 25 year old Seattle based (no pun intended) wunderkind is increasingly making a name for himself not only as a producer but as a MC-free artist. Look no further than the mix that he and Darwin put together for the New Museum show, 808s & Space (embedded below). Thanks for stopping by dudes!

Store Spotting: Molly Soda Pours Some Sugar On It

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

The official queen of Tumblr, Molly Soda, stopped by our store a few weeks ago whilst in New York City visiting with her boyfriend and producer extraordinaire Hot Sugar, who clearly was not aware where the camera was for this particularly photographic endeavor.

Ms. Soda inauspiciously began her tumblr some years ago before finding her particular brand of awesomeness really struck a chord with the humans on the internet, making her page a one stop shop for the best in gifs and clip art and other kewl things.

Hot Sugar, when he’s not cracking skulls (literally), watching porn on planes, or trying to capture the majesty of a wizard’s penis, is producing awesome beats for rappers like Big Baby Gandhi and The Roots, as well as working on his own solo jumpoffs.

Can’t wait for his Moon Money EP which drops on Ninja Tune May 15th. I interviewed both of them, so look out for that on the Bloglin next week!

Store Spotting: Mista Jam Hangs at 350 Broadway

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Mista Jam, a very well know DJ and Radio presenter for BBC Radio 1, recently came by our 350 Broadway store to pick up some gear. His show the Saturday Night Soundclash, is part of Radio 1 & Radio 1xtra’s on Saturday nights. He spins Dubstep, Grime, Hip Hop, R&B, Drum & Bass, House, Reggae Dancehall and pretty much everything in between. Sounds dope right?

His show is sometimes called “the key to the underground”, and features his personal picks for album of the week, and new dubstep releases you need to hear. Mista Jam even has a TV show on BBC Two called No Hats, No Trainers. The show gets into rap and electronic music, as well as DJ culture, and comedy. He delves into underground and mainstream music, trends, and culture from the UK and world wide. If I had cable TV I would be watching this show. Jam is rocking the super clean Old School Starter Snapback in Heather, and the Oversized Death Adder Crewneck in Black and Orange.

Store Spotting: The #seapunks Stop by 350!

Sunday, March 4th, 2012

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming OG Seapunks Zombelle and Ultrademon into our 350 Broadway location to get aquatic and check out the new Spring 12 collection. In from Chicago to play at Gender Blender, the Coral Records heads are hard at work both on music and the label (not to mention some aggressive tweeting, and honing their Magic: The Gathering decks).

These two exceedingly nice folks were also cool enough to sit down with me for a fun and informative interview where we covered everything from Coral to cruises, E-cigs, tumblr, the haters, hair dye sponsorships, prospective rodent mascots and much much more. You can look for that up on the blog next week, and be sure to check out all the Coral Records releases and enjoy this fan made clip for Fire For Effect’s (AKA Ultrademon) “Weed Tang Clan.”

Store Spotting: Put Your Hands Up For Dub Police!

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Oh shit, this place just got massive, ya heard?? 350 Broadway almost got wobble-wobbled to the ground last week when our friends Subscape and D1 from Dub Police stopped by to say whatup and get an up close look at the Spring 12 collection. Though we stuck to rap on this one, you’ll remember Subscape was in our Fall 2011 lookbook, and also did a fully fucking flexed Keep Watch (Vol. XXXII) mix for us.

They were coming through town on the inaugural Dub Police tour, with Caspa, Trolley Snatcha, and more. And Hey! We have a brand new Dub Police T-Shirt available in our on-line store right this second. How convenient, eh?
