Store Spotting: Al To The Muthafuckin’ Chemist!

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Man o man o man… For an LA native, music producer & emcee The Alchemist is one of Los Angeles’ hip hop & music community’s pride & joy. Do Cypress Hill, Soul Assassins or DJ Muggs ring a bell? Yea exactly… And for me as a junior high kid, I first heard Al’s music on Defari’s (LA emcee & high school teacher) classic album Focused Daily.

All hip hop heads should be quite familiar with him as well with production, credits & a discography that is seemingly endless: Mobb Deep, Dilated Peoples, Ghostface, Nas, RA the Rugged Man, Pharoahe Monch, Capone-N-Noreaga, Pun, Styles P, etc etc etc etc etc etc. Those were just the ones that immediately came to mind. Oh yea he deejays for this dude named Eminem, that is all…

So for Alchemist to show love for Мишка & our Death Adder Nation, I can’t lie…I was semi geek’d. He even shared a story of lurking our online store for that DA Varsity jacket which we had a surprise for him when we stitched his name on it. It’s also worth mentioning he is one of the most humble and easy going people you will come across. He’s currently got a project out with Stones Throw artist Oh No called Gangrene that they are touring overseas for.

And they will be doing dates across the US soon so be on the lookout for that. Peep our man Action Bronson’s hilarious cameo in Gangrene’s new video for “Vodka & Ayahuasca.” Stay in tune for some Alchemist bangers with Bronson, eXquire & Roc Marci to name a few…

Store Spotting: Workaholics In the House

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

Friday was really loose butthole until we got a surprise visit by mopsters and funnymen Blake Anderson and Kyle Newacheck from Comedy Central‘s hilarious hit show Workaholics. In town to check in at the CC headquarters while also hard at work (as always) writing the third season, the two dudes make sure to come by 350 Broadway.

Blake has been sportin’ Death Adders on the show for a minute, and was even nice enough to do a very funny interview with me last year. Kyle, who you’ll see pop up on Workaholics here and there as drug dealer and rape van owner Karl, is also a co-creator and frequent writer director. Thanks for dropping dudes,  we can’t wait for season 3.

Store Spotting: We’re Big in Russia

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Meet Pavel Lilienfeld. He’s a television commercial producer who lives and works in Moscow. He also happens to be a big Мишка fan, and stopped by our 350 Broadway store on his way through NYC.

We always love to get fans from around the world coming in, especially ones from the mother country. But Pavel brought something extra cool with him.

See, Pavel was recently working on a commercial for a Russian mobile phone company called Tele2. At the end of the commercial, there’s a shot of a bunch of young hip Russians hanging out in a bar, presumably enjoying the full service they are receiving from Tele2. The creative director, however, didn’t think that the guy in the shot was wearing cool enough clothes.

Enter Pavel, who was wearing a Oversized Adder T-Shirt. Because it’s Russia, the director demanded Pavel give the actor the shirt off his back, and now we’re in a Russian telecommunications commercial. We’re fuckin’ famous yo!

Store Spotting: Dizzy D Is a Human. Sorta.

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

‘Bama in the building yo! SortaHuman homie Dizzy D dropped by the 350 Broadway store (he’s in the krispy shirt) to say whatup and pay respects to the temple of the bloody eyeball.

Dizzy has popped up on a bunch of SortaHuman tracks, including “Hadouken!”, so he better have gotten in a game or two on our SFII machine (you knew we had one of those, right?)

He even did some of the production of the fire Stonergang mixtape. Dizzy D was in town with his buddy/collaborator Shedrick Pelt shooting a video for a track off of Dizzy’s Elevation mixtape, his debut solo project which you can check out here for a taste of what’s popping off in Huntsville.

Store Spotting: The Future Is Faded

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

Future, the man behind the surprise hit “Tony Montana” (y’know, that earworm that’s been stuck in your head for the past few months) stopped by our 350 Broadway location recently to hang out and do a little interview with Greg for The Fader.

I happen to be a fan of Auto-Tune rap (sorry?) and the truly bizarre vocal inflections it produces. Future’s inimitable repetitions of “Tony Montana” are so strange that they eventually begin to lose their original meaning some sort of borderline mystical chant.

Aaaannyway, as I mentioned The Fader saw some sort of heretofore unmentioned thematic connection between us and Future, so they trucked him out to our store which, apparently, is “in the cut” (his words) to talk about his fashion swag.

Our co-founder Greg was also on hand to further explain what a big part music, and especially recently rap music plays in the brand. Check out the interview, I’m gonna go walk around and say “Tony Montana” a bunch of times and feel weird about myself.

Store Spotting: Swinging From the Gallows Pole *Pause*

Monday, December 5th, 2011

UK hardcore punk band, Gallowsset fire to the streets of Brooklyn and lit a bunch of shit on fire before stopping by our 350 Broadway Store to do a little bit of shopping. Perhaps you remember their 2008 single “Just Because You Sleep Next To Me Doesn’t Mean You’re Safe”? I wanted to put that as my quote in my high school senior year book. They wouldn’t let me.

You know, it’s very fitting that this is posting today, as Gallows just dropped a new EP! Today! That’s why it’s fitting. Death Is Birth is a collection of four songs, one of which, “Mondo Chaos“, is the band’s new single. And as is tradition with singles, there’s a sweet new video to go along with it, featuring motorcycles doing wheelies. Remember Heelys? Those were dope.

Fuck the world and start listening to Gallows. Or keep listening to Gallows.

Store Spotting: Dannibal Corpse Bangs Our Drum!

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

Get out your earplugs kids! We had Danny Terchin AKA Dannibal Corpse, drummer for Chicago deathcore band Oceano stop by our store. Isn’t it always the nicest looking guys who end up pummeling the skins in a death metal band, amirite?

In case you don’t know, Oceano’s music is heavy as fuck, thanks in no small part to Mr. Corpse here. Danny’s been known to rock Mishka in the past, and if that’s a Road To Ruin crewneck I see on him, looks like in the future as well. Oceano’s album Contagion is out now.

Store Spotting: Keepin’ It Trill w/ Bun B

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

We were extremely pleased and a little fanboyed out to have the one and only Bun B stop by the 350 Broadway Store recently. Growing up as a nerdy and generally lame suburban white kid, the first time I heard UGK’s Ridin’ Dirty my face pretty much just fell off. I would like to hope that perhaps some of you shared in that experience.

Despite the end of UGK (RIP Pimp C), Bun B has continued to exhibit his trill flow over some real dope solo albums, including last year’s Trill OG, and a bunch of guest verses. He is, apparently, also a fan of Night Slugs, which makes me like him even more. I think the lesson here is: come by the store and you might meet some of the best rappers of all time. Of all time yo!

In the meantime check out Bun and Big K.R.I.T. in new guest spots over Jackie Chain‘s latest video “Parked Outside.”

Store Spotting: A Nasty Child of the Night!

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

Nasty Nigel, one-third of the Queens Hip Hop trio, Children of the Night stopped by the 350 spot recently for a surprise visit. You should be well aware of COTN by now, seeing as I’ve been posting about them in high frequency. In the off-chance that you’ve been blowing it, fret not: it’s time to learn about Children Of The Night.

The group, composed of the Nasty Nigel, pictured above, along with Remy Banks and Lansky Jones weave technical, yet fun rhymes through modern electro-infused jazz beats, arriving at a unique and energetic sound. Currently working on their debut album, they’ve got a couple of mixtapes available for free on their website, along with an EP as well. But let us not forget about their live shows. I’ve only had the pleasure of seeing them perform once so far, but it was incredible, possessing the energy and excitement that is missing from so much of Hip Hop these days.

They’re currently working on a new video, but in the meantime, check out “Do For Love” above, off their Where The Wild Things Are tape. Go download all their tapes now; I recommend you start with Where The Wild Things Are. It’s my favorite. Which ever one you start with, do it quick, because I would hate for you to not be up on the next great group, namely: Children Of The Night.

Store Spotting: Perrion Is a Rambling Man

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Shit’s bubbling in NY lately when it comes to Hip Hop. We told ya so. It’s friggin’ wonderful! One young artist we got our eye on and that’ll be popping off on your radars soon enough is Harlem’s Perrion.

Perry and his manager Roo stopped by the shop the other day to get laced up and also gave us a little taste of what he has been working on. He gave us  a first taste of tracks from his upcoming Electro-inspired mixtape Circuit Breaker which is set to drop on 11/11/11.

“Rambling” is the latest video off of Perry’s current mixtape, Le Bourgeon, which you can download for free over here. Perrion has also got a slew of other videos and tracks on his YouTube channel you should also check out to appease you while you wait for Circuit Breaker.
