Store Spotting: Make a Wish!

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Wishatl 350

So here at the shop we love shops. We love to talk shop and we love the people who visit the shop. But we especially love when we get visits from other shops! Not too long ago, Frank and Ana of Wish Atl made their way over to 350 Broadway while seeing the sites of NYC. We kicked it for a bit and talked about one of our favorite passions, our individual shops.

If you’re ever in the Atlanta, GA area, you should definitely make your way over Wish Atl. The location pays homage to the building’s past as a historic library with its clean book shelf layout. And with Wish housing some of the sickest exclusive kicks this side of the Mississippi, there’s no question why it’s such a hot spot. But if your trip down to Hotlanta isn’t happening anytime soon, keep up with Wish’s comings and goings by following them on Twitter

Store Spotting: The Bloglin Attacks…Hadouken!

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Have you ever wondered who some of the dudes are that write for the Bloglin? Well a while back we got a visit here at 350 Broadway from two of our favorite Bloglin contributors, Dr. Dinosaur (left) who has been doing videogame posts and Oh Mars! (right), the man behind most of our TV re-ups, movie reviews and just one of the Bloglin’s all-around editors.

I know you might be wondering if these guys are as cool as they write… and the answer is yes! Their internet demeanor truly carries over into their real-life personalities. And even through I think of these guys as local celebrities ’round these parts, they keep it pretty humble.

These guys told me that they’ve been meaning to make their way down to the store for a while now, which I thought was mainly to throw me some props for all of my store spottings. But alas these dudes’ real intentions were for a good ole’ game of Street Fighter.

The game started to get a little heated when Oh Mars! took the victory in a best out of 3 series. But before it got too heated and turned into an actual street fight these guys got off of the sticks and made up as good blogger buddies should. They even gave me the drop on their next up and coming venture, the formation of the first ever Folk-Dubstep band. I think the name of the group is still up in the air, but either way I still gave my nod of approval and wished the guys the best of luck… I think that they might need it.

Store Spotting: Congorock & Co.

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Recently we got a visit from one of the globes best DJs, the bass pumping  Congorock. Rocco gave us one of our most popular and best Keep Watch Mixes to date and has been a heavy Мишка supporter for a while now…the feeling is mutual!

You would be hard pressed to find a photo of Congorock out there not rocking some Мишка, so best believe anytime he’s in town he makes sure to swing by 350 Broadway and get some fresh gear.

A few weeks ago Congorock tore down a set at 88 Palace for the Flashing Lights showcase with friends like Nick Catchdubs and DJ Ayres. But on this day he came to the store with few more buddies, our very own Shark and AC Slater, two of Мишка’s favorite fellas.

And with these guys being the art snobs that they are they made sure to take in the awesomeness of the Globin art exhibit which is counting down its final days at the 350 Broadway. This is always sad to see good art go, but we never let down you guys down because we have another blazing artist who will be displaying their work soon. So stay tuned!

Store Spotting: Anarchy at 350 Broadway!

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Straight out of the Japan, we recently got a visit from one of the biggest rap stars from Japan. Anarchy told us that while in NY he had to take a trip down to see one to one of his favorite brands, us! Anarchy has been tearing up the Tokyo scene for years now but ever since he dropped his second album Dream and Drama last year his name’s been on the tongue a lot of Japanese Hip-Hoppers.

Anarchy brought out his whole team as they went of  shopping spree grabbing everything in site (he really is a fan). So I knew that it would put a huge smile on his face when I told him that we’ll be having a presence Tokyo very, very shortly…but like a true fan he already knew.

Anarchy even came baring gifts! Being the cool guy that he is, Anarchy made sure to drop off a autographed copy of his latest album and live performance DVD of Dream and Drama. And since we love gifts we made sure to send him and his team back to Tokyo with a bunch of 350 Broadway exclusives that are only found here in our Brooklyn location. That should hold him over… well at least for a couple of weeks.

Store Spotting: Ski in Spring

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Ski2 1 350

Ski Beatz got wind that we just received our Spring-1 collection and wasted no time in making his way down to 350 Broadway. Ski got a sneak peak of what was to come for the Spring season and immediately fell in love with our Trailblazer satin white jacket with the embroidered back.

Ski2 2 350

Last time Ski was here we were discussing the release of his 24 Karate School album which is overloaded with a variety of Hip-Hop and R&B artists doing their thing over Ski’s beats. Since then just to tease us he’s released the 24 Hour Karate School (Snippets), a mixtape with quick clips of all the featured songs on the album just to wet your appetite until the release of the actual album in late March. To keep up to date with what’s happening with Ski at the Dojo check out the 24 Hour Karate School website.

Blu

But if the snippets of the karate school mixtape isn’t enough for you, then check out Ski Beatz and the rest of the DD172 collective as the jam out tonight at The Gramercy Theater tonight. The BluRoc show will feature many of the artists from the album along with a whole heap of special guests and surprises as they will be performing live some joints from the up and coming album. It should be a great show!

Store Spotting: Genesis Breyer P-Orridge

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Genesis 2 350

We recently had a visit to both 350 Broadway and the Мишка headquarters nearby, from one of my artistic idols… the one, the only, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge of Coum Transmitions, Throbbing Gristle, and Psychic TV. Genesis stayed and chatted with us about art, Charles Manson, Brian Jones, and even Juggalos. I could have spent the whole day getting lost in everything Genesis had to say, but eventually busy schedules pulled everyone back to the realities of our daily grind.

AlbrigoGen

Genesis has been busy recently not only reviving Throbbing Gristle, but working on a variety of art projects. Most recently was her collaborative show with the talented Daniel Albrigo called Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is…A Love Story, which just wrapped up at the Renwick Gallery. Genesis will also be hosting an evening at MOMA on March 22nd that you all should attend and expand those horizons by spending an evening with one of the greatest and most unique artists to emerge from the 20th century.

01_genesis_p_orridge

Also, I’d like to wish a belated Happy Birthday to Genesis, who turned 60 yesterday. Here’s to 60 more of pushing artistic boundaries and acceptance. If you have any interest in learning more about this singularly amazing artist, I recommend checking out the recently released Thee Psychick Bible from Feral House Press and the re-pressed Wreckers of Civilization from Black Dog Publishing.

Store Spotting: The Lamour & Earl Show!

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Lamour Supreme and Earl 350

Recently we got a visit from one of our favorite artists, who just so happened to bring along a friend of his. Lamour Supreme popped into the store with a little surprise in his bag of tricks. Straight out of Showbiz Pizza, The Rock-afire Explosion’s very own Earl Schmerle from the Rolfe and Earl Show.

Lamour and Earl 2 350

Except this time Earl ditched DeWolf for a (slightly) cooler companion. Lamour had just finished putting the final touches up on restoring this Earl puppet and wanted to gloat! If you ask me, Earl is looking just as spiffy as ever, and even better with the updated head gear. The good doctor Supreme has some magical hands. I think that I might need him to do some work on me as well. Anything to shave off a year or two!

And just because this gives us reason to lets hear Earl kick out his best Jeezy once again (fast forward to 2:34)…

Prince Terrance 350

A few weeks back we told you to keep an eye on Hussle Club with our new “You Should be Listening to…” Bloglin feature. Well Prince Terrence the man behind Hussle Club dropped by 350 Broadway recently to grab some gear.

If you still haven’t delved headfirst into Hussle Clubs’s throwback No Wave Dance, maybe you caught Terrence drumming for the likes of Santigold, Spank Rock and Heartsrevolution? Either way this kid is going to be huge! Stay tuned for more details about Hussle Club’s first ever show in NYC very, very soon!

P.S. Don’t let that mean scowl fool you, Terrence is one hell of a nice guy.

Store Spotting: Scrilla Chinchilla

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Scrilla 350

Scrilla, a Brooklyn local and avid visitor to the Мишка store recently made another stop over at 350 Broadway. Half of the reason for the visit was to take advantage of the sick sale prices, but the other half was to show off his  all Мишка all white everything attire for the evening. I must give kudos to Scrilla for still having this throwback Мишка shirt. And since  Scrilla is also a huge Ninjasonik fan you’ll hardly ever catch him not sporting the Мишка x Ninjasonik tee.

Scrilla 2 350

Don’t be fooled by his mean mug nor his tough guy scowl,  Scrilla’s just a fly guy trying to get by.  And you can help him out by following him on twitter page where I can be promise you’ll get a good chuckle or two.

Store Spotting: DJ Klever, Killin’ It

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Klever SS 350

This weekend we got a visit from Atlanta based DJ and turntable destroyer extraordinaire DJ Klever. Klever was in town for a night only as he shut down Webster Hall on Friday along with our good homie Nick Catchdubs. And although he had a pretty tight schedule he knew that we had the heat so Klever made it a point to stop into 350 B’way.

We chopped it for a bit, all while Klever fell in love with piece after piece and stuffed his dope cowhide duffel bag to the brim before shipping of to his next stop, Seattle. But if Klever’s name doesn’t ring a bell, you’ve either been living under a rock or missed Keep Watch Vol. XIII. Also be sure to check out the 28th installment of Serious Saturday to see a vid Klever cutting it up at the 2001 DMC Championships.
