Store Spotting: Suck My (Nag) Balls!!!

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Remember the Boryoku Genjin (Violent Caveman) that we’ve posted about a bunch of times on the Bloglin? Yea those amazingly ugly but somehow beautiful chunks of vinyl? Well this is the guy who made them. Not the guy on the right, that’s Lamour Supreme of course… But the guy giving the big numero uno on the left. That’s  higeru, the mastermind behind the Boryoku Genjin, Nag Ball and his newest creation the NZOMBIE!

Shigeru made his first trip out to New York last week as our guest for Comic Con where we unveiled the NZOMBIE and satiated countless kaiju crazed fans clamoring to get their hands on brand new NagNagNag toys. And those disgusting and amazing creations are probably fetching an arm & a leg now over on eBay. Only seems right.

Store Spotting: Joshua Drac and Bella Lugosi Drop by For That In-Store Experience

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

On a mini vacation to LA, there was no way 18 year old Joshua Otarola and his sister Bella could go without stopping by their favorite brand’s west coast flagship. After calling in to inquire about our business hours, these Bay Area Mopsters raced to the shop to spend whatever funds they had left from gas and accommodations and all those other expenses that come with driving from SF to LA. Making sure they took some of their first in-store experience back home with them, they picked up a couple of LA exclusive pieces along with some of our new fall gear.

After practically emptying their wallets in front of me, the two struck up a conversation about music and ‘based‘ on the t-shirt Joshua was wearing. I knew they’d have as good of taste in music as they did in fashion. Without question, these are two of the raddest kids around.

We thank you for the in-store visit. I’m sure we’ll see you again real soon!

Store Spotting: Western Tink Got Us Keelin’

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Last week we got a surprise visit from one of our favorite up and coming emcees, Austin’s Western Tink. And if you read the Bloglin regularly then you know we’re really high on dude. Tink’s debut, Hard to Keel Vol. 1 has been on steady rotation ’round our offices for months and when we need a break from it we sometimes throw on the syrupy slow FvckSwag edition of the album.

Tink’s got some new things in the works, which include a whole bunch of new tracks between him and Beautiful Lou. If you’re constantly on the hunt for the next fresh thing, well we’re cosigning that you can expect big, big, big, things from the big man Tink.

Tink just dropped a brand new video for yet another beautiful Lou produced track called “Letting Go.” This dude goes hard and I’m dying to get my hands on his next full length. In the meantime you all should go download Hard to Keel Vol. 1. Shit reminds me of Masta Ace on syrup and I’m lovin’ it.

Store Spotting: Turntabilists & Temptresses… Dieselboy & Jessie Andrews

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Another interesting day at 1547 Echo Park when the Drum & Bass legend himself, DJ Dieselboy, rolled through the shop with the sweet and adorable Jessie Andrews. Jessie, who i’ve known for a bit now, was hosting her good friend Damian while he was in town and they both decided to stop by our LA flagship before he left back NY. in case you aren’t already in the know; Dieselboy is the Founder of his own Human/SubHuman Label and as such has developed a substantial portfolio producing some of the most intense drum&Bass/DubStep/Electro beats; crowding dancefloors and wreaking havoc all around the world with other well-known artists. it’s always great to see these guys come through and reciprocate that love we have for them.

Dieselboy came by with the beautiful Jessie Andrews, who is genuinely one of the nicest people I know. Besides that, she’s a really rad girl. I seem to run into her at most shows we are involved in here in LA and it’s always fun hanging with her. And just so you know, we are about to feature her wearing some of our gear alongside the bombshell that is Andy San Dimas so Keep Watch!!!

Store Spotting: Every Day We Hustlin’; Just Not As Hard As Dante Ross

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

If you looked up “OG” in the dictionary I am pretty sure you would see a photo of Dante Ross. So when Dante is texting, emailing, twittering me to get a hold of a few pair of our chinos, I know that we are doing something right!

Dante has been busy of late not only managing New York’s rap sensation Action Bronson, but also joining the Warner Bros. A&R department to do what he does best. But that’s not all! He’s also doing Hip Hop history on The Berrics and is also working on a book called My Father’s Son due out in the fall of 2012. See I told you he was busy!

Store Spotting: Cole Iles Is Engineered to Destroy

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

This will never ever ever ever get old. What would you do if you had a passionate, 16 year old sophmore student drive 230 miles in a 4 hour car ride along with his mother just to check out your store front? Yea you’d be pretty humbled too right. Last week, Cole Iles & his mother made the 4 hour trip from Fresno CA in the heart of California’s Central Valley just to come visit his favorite brand’s Los Angeles flagship here in Echo Park.

They also made a stop at Amoeba for some records, which Cole is an avid fan of as well as art, movies & of course Мишка. Needless to say, Cole & his mother were very gracious and friendly. After sharing some stories about school, fashion & art, they literally hopped back in their car to drive back up to Fresno. Now that is a dedicated Death Adder. Happy to have you on the squad Cole! Come back soon.

Store Spotting: In the Mouths of Beasts!

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Of recent, gothic noisemakers Bestial Mouths were caught clawing through the store. Be careful, looks can be deceiving and behind this sweet family-style photograph waits a dark, volatile energy overflowing with tortured yells, whip-cracking drums, and foreboding synthesizers. Their visit to New York comes in support of their debut release, Hissing Veil, to be out on Dais Records. Pitchy screams and moans invade the foreground over sporadic pace changes as gloom encompasses, goading the primal instinct out of you.

It was nice of these guys to stop in and grace 350 Broadway with their dismal presence. From across the country, the Los Angeles trio of Lynette Cerezo, Christopher Myrick, and Ebrahim Saleh will be shouting to the sky and the earth this Sunday at the most-unholy St. Vitus bar. You don’t know what you’re in for.

Store Spotting: This Monster is BUFF!

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

The wildly talented Buff Monster stopped by the Echo Park store the other day to pick up some goodies and pay us a visit. Buff has been on his grind these days, as he just released a video on his blog documenting some of the sweet street action going down in Hollywood. The video showcases the artist in his natural element, perched atop a building, giving birth to one of his classic confectionery street art creations… The brutal tune which soundtracks the clip ain’t half bad either.

Buff’s website claims that he “works tirelessly day and night to spread happiness, joy and a love of pink”. We really can’t argue with that! If you’re into artwork that’s completely adorable, but highlighted with a twinge of the grotesque, you might be wise to go check out the upcoming art show Buff is putting on along side Jeremyville. The exhibit is taking place at the Cotton Candy Machine in Brooklyn, and will run from August 4th right up until September 4th. Buff presenting his work at a place called The Cotton Candy Machine sounds like a match made in heaven to me. I’m sure his work will pop off the walls of this new space in a fit of fuschia-hued bliss!

And who knows, maybe you’ll be seeing some Buff Monster Мишка action sometime soon, Keep Watch I Guess!

Store Spotting: Andrew Quarless Rolled In, All Iced Out

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Ever wonder how a defending Superbowl champ fills up the dog days of the off-season? Well, it appears that one NFL player recently decided to swing by his local Мишка retailer! Before NFL labor negotions had come to a conclusion, sophomore Tight End Andrew Quarless strapped a little bit of ice onto his right hand, and paid us a visit at our Brooklyn locale. Quarless grew up right around the corner in Long Island, so it was a pleasure to see the dude roaming the streets of his old stomping grounds.

After completing a storied football career at Penn State, under the tutelage of the ever-prescient JoePa, Quarless was snatched up by the mighty Green Bay Packers in the 2010 NFL draft. Saying that No. 81 slipped into a favorable position would be an understatement. Quarless found himself getting targets as a member of the Packers solid Tight End stable, and eventually played a role it helping the squad rise to American Football supremacy. While I generally fancy myself as an AFC supporter, I’d be lying if I claimed I didn’t love seeing The Pack beat the pants off ol’ Gray-Penis Roethlisberger last year in  Dallas.

Did I happen to mention that Quarless was also topped off with one of our very own New Era caps when he dropped by? While I would have liked to have seen the guy wearing a giant foam Cheesehead hat, I’m forced to admit that our gear doesn’t look half bad when paired with a superbowl ring. Unfortunately, we’re not currently selling any of those at the shop… you probably couldn’t afford one anyway.
