The Tom and Tony Show

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

I already mentioned that I was in Philly this past weekend, riding with the Slow Sunday crew. Tom, Josh and Tony showed me a great time at FDR Skatepark, which is where I shot this short video. It’s nothing serious, so don’t think about it too much.

Mishka NJ devils
Here is a more in depth look at the first 3 (of many) custom colored NHL new era fitted we will be designing for Cap City. First up is a take on the NJ Devils. I decided to marry my favorite team with my favorite color palate of purples, sea foam and black. Why is a team from Jersey my favorite when I grew up in Brooklyn? Well for one they were one of the first NHL teams to go heavy on bringing over Russian talent in the 80s, which as Russian kid caught my attention and heart. But besides that, the Devils are run exactly how I think all sport teams should be… team first and built up upon smart drafting and their own farm system of talent! Couple that with the fact that Cap City is in Jersey and I just think the devils logo is one of sports best logos of all time and it was a no brainer!

Mishka Canucks
This one will probably bring me more ire from NY sports fans as the Canucks are who battled the Rangers for the cup in ‘94. Pavel Bure, the Russian Rocket is my favorite player of all time (along with Alexander Mogliny). He was an unstoppable goal scoring machine and one of the fastest players ever to lace up his skates.  The Canucks have since switched logos to an orca like C in the past few years, but I’ve always loved their old skate logo from the 80s and 90s. I used various tones of green with a pink accent to pay tribute my favorite player. I just had a thing for green while designing this cap.

Mishka Northstars
The Minnesota Northstars (now the Dallas Stars) were a team whose logo, uniform and color scheme I admired much more than the team. It was simple, impactful, sleek yet classic. A great example of less is more when it comes to sports logo design. I really just wanted to take their classic N and marry it to a very unconventional hockey color scheme… orange! I think the results came out quite nicely.

Like we mentioned on our frontpage these are the first of many custom colors we’ll be doing for Cap City. There will only be 30 produced of each and they will ONLY be available at Cap City, with a handful making it down to our Pop-Up Shop.

Tarek Monkey Bizz

If you havent had a chance, make sure you check out the GALLERY section of our website to see a buttload of photos from our recent trip to Stockholm!

One of the main reasons we were out there was to spend some time with our friend Tarek and his store Monkey Bizz!
Tarek Monkey Bizz

Monkey Bizz was one of our first international accounts and has had three locations in it’s lifespan. At one point Tarek ran Monkey Bizz out of the back storage area of Stockholm’s premier Hip Hop urbanwear shop, Recognize. Needless to say, he has gone a long way since opening the shop.

Tarek Monkey Bizz

The new Monkey Bizz is huge. The design is very clean and extra care is taken to presentation. This is not one of those shops where another t-shirt or hoodie is just sitting on a rack. Great care is taken to display the items so that they all work together and make nice outfits.

Tarek Monkey Bizz

Tarek handpicks the brands that he carries, and is the exclusive retailer in Stockholm for some of the hottest brands out there, including such favorites as Rockers NYC, PegLeg, Flying Coffin, and Actual Pain.

Tarek Monkey Bizz

Monkey Bizz is not the easiest store to find if you are ever in Stockholm. Its in a basement on a side street. You’ll probably have to take a train to a bus and then walk about 500 meters, but its well worth it.

Maybe if you come by late enough, Tarek will take you to Snow White for some cheap beers and loose slots!
