Мишка Los Angeles is now open for business!!! If you couldn’t make it out for the opening ceremonies, there are plenty of recaps, photos, and videos going around.

• The first delivery of the Spring 2010 collection is now available in the online store! Everything you need! So many accessories!!!

Мишка Presents Keep Watch Vol. XVI: Craze! is out and if you are having trouble with the download, read the comments. It aint hard, people.

Ryan Keely didn’t get topless and burn comics just for the Toilet Cobra, she did it for us all.

• Hateball reminisces about an often neglected category on the Bloglin: Boner Shorts.

• This week’s winner of Freaky Stylee is NY’s own, Liam Dempsey. Great photo, Liam. To enter, check out the rules on the link and send your pic(s) to bloglin@mishkanyc.com.

• Tom Arnold get some serious love in this week’s Kill With Video.

Sporting Observations kept up on Canada’s fight for the gold in the Winter Olympics.

Beef Tongue, Hood Rat Stuff, and Мишка Takes LA: The Bloglin Weekly Round-Up!!!

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

tommy-bruso-slick

While most of Мишка partied in LA this weekend, I traveled to NYC for Vice Magazine’s Over the Edge screening at Lincoln Center. Toilet Cobra and the Vidiot were there too and we all got to meet for the the first time. It was adorable. More on that night in a future post. I just got back to Salem a couple hours ago. I always feel disgusting after a day spent on NJ Transit, NYC subway, and Fung Wah. Anyways.

• The big news this week was the Spring 2010 Lookbook and the opening of Мишка LA, dummies! I wasn’t able to make it out there, but I hope everyone had a blast! The Spring 2010 line is now available at 350 Broadway as well as LA. As always, the line is sexy.

• Baggy Baggy Magnums, ya’ll! Mishka fam member Reed Maidhof and his boy Andrew Kublin (AKA Baggy Magnums) have put together Hood Rat Stuff, an eclectic mix of dubstep, heavy bass, baile, tropical and rap. Check it out if you haven’t already, ya nancies.

• After reading “10 Foods That I Love That You Will Think Is Gross,” something tells me my man Crook would do really well on Fear Factor.

• After a brief hiatus, Kill With Video returns only to blast right off for Mars!!! I sadly didn’t get to spend enough time with the Vidiot on Friday night ( I had a train to catch), but let me just say he’s a very persuasive person and I will now be adding Cradle 2 the Grave to my Netflix queue.

• Toilet Cobra’s latest edition of Packrat Pride features some of his noteworthy NES games. Most impressive, in my opinion. I love Adventures in the Magic Kingdom and I vividly remember my grandpa bartering with an old woman at a PA flea market to get me Caveman Games.

• This week’s winner of Freaky Stylee is Chris Martin of Long Island. Bravo, Chris! To enter, check out the rules on the link and send your pic(s) to bloglin@mishkanyc.com.

• So this bus fight thing…its seems to be the internet thing of the week. I really don’t have much to add;  I’m not down with violence unless John Woo is choreographing it. But here’s the bonus footage and follow-up interview with everyone’s new favorite golden glove.

Fear of a 12th Planet takes on World Communism.

• The Olympic’s Men’s Hockey tournament gets the Sporting Observations treatment. Wait, is there a women’s hockey tournament. That’s awesome.

80growingpains52

• Search term of the week which led people to the Bloglin: “Growing pains.” The kid who played Boner on Growing Pains recently went missing in Vancouver. I searched the term myself and couldn’t link it back to Mishka.

• Only one album rated B+ or above this week, and that album is The Big Black and the Blue from First Aid Kit checking in with a solid A.

Nic Cage, Black Metal No Homo, and Echo Park: The Bloglin Weekly Round-Up!

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Picture 3

Sup! I always knew the most popular thing I would write for the Bloglin would involve Nic Cage. The list of my favorite Cage performances got some great feedback and after watching Vampire’s Kiss yesterday, I would definitely add that to the list. Possibly in the number 2 slot. When he jumps on the desk and shouts “There you are!,” I lost it. Here’s the rest of the juicy nuggets from the week:

• Big fucking news ya’ll. On February 20, МИШКА LA will open its doors at 1547 Echo Park Blvd. Wish I could be there for the opening! The next obvious step is МИШКА Boston. Right?

• This week’s winner of Freaky Stylee is Tampa Bay’s Ryan Berger. This actually isn’t the first time Berger has appeared on the Bloglin, back in October ’09 Berger showed off his wicked Psycho Simon/My Pet Monster tattoo. We love you, Berger!  Get those photos in for next week’s Freaky Stylee! Check out the rules here.

• NY Fashion Week began on a very sad note with the suicide of talented designer Alexander McQueen. RIP.

• Crook dug up an interview him and Twerps! did for France’s Clark Magazine back in 2007. Time flies! One thing that hasn’t changed in three years is Twerps! love for pop punk.

Picture 1

• Former Gorgoroth frontman Gaahl was named “Homosexual of the Year” at the Gay Galla in Bergen, Norway. His lover is a 19 year old named Robin. Awesome.

• More big news: ICP will be headlining this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival. No they won’t. But it’s important to have a dream.

Sporting Observations breaks down the baffling Winter Olympics opening ceremony.

Fear of a 12th Planet looks at Remote Viewing and psi-intelligence.

• Top rated reviews of the week: Black Noise from Panthu Du Prince, One Life Stand from Hot Chip, and Judged By 12 Carried By 6 from Blessure Grave.

Reznik out!

JuggaloFacePaint

My ninjas! Where the fuck did January go!? As I’m writing this, I’m catching up on season 4 of Dexter. “Catching up” as in watching the whole season that I slept on. It’s an awesome show, but the supporting cast is so weak. Especially Dexter’s sister. She blows. Now onto the goods…

Freaky Stylee has begun! Enter the new weekly Bloglin style contest and you could win $75 at the  online shop! Check out the first batch of winners and the rules here. Good luck!

• The temperature might be in the teens, but Spring is quickly approaching. And that means the Spring 2010 collection is right around the corner. Check out a preview of some of the tees, New Eras, and bags and accessories dropping soon. There’s also some serious D.A.R.T. goodness on the way.

IMG_3558

• Our favorite photographer Ellen Stagg is another year older and the Toilet Cobra was at the clothes-optional celebration. Toilet Cobra also wrote about stuff he’s working on, I didn’t read it, but the comments are worth reading.

• Mash-ups still exist and The Hood Internet do them well.

• Мишка has got the exclusive RX Northern Lights mixtape for the download! Good for watching the ice melt.

• There was no Kill With Video this week…blame the Vidiot.

• The latest installment of the popular Fear of a 12th Planet column takes a look at the DMT; Joe Rogan’s psychadelic of choice.

8435e2e46b2468974a9ca01689e13ecd

• I haven’t cared about much this week because LOST is back and already occupying my waking thoughts. We had some great input, theories, etc. in the LOST Re-Up comments last year, let’s keep em coming!

• Reclusive cartoonist Bill Watterson giving his first interview in 15 years. That’s pretty big fucking news if you ask me.

• Top rated albums of the week: Odd Blood from Yeasayer, S/T from AFCGT, Tomorrow, In a Year from The Knife, the Dreamland EP from Moonface, and Causers of This from Toro Y Moi.

Bloglin Weekly Round-Up!

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Once in a while, a video will get posted on the Bloglin in the middle of the night after I’m asleep. In the morning while I’m getting my shit together, I’ll watch it. This is what happened with the above video. I almost called out of work because it. I felt like my whole day was already ruined and I wasn’t even dressed yet.

• The GOBLIN print series from artist and longtime Mishka collaborator Jon Vermilyea opened this week at 350 Broadway. Check out a recap of opening night here and if you’re in town, head over to the shop and pick up a limited edition GOBLIN tee or tot bag! Or both!

Wikipedia porn is a great virtual loophole.

• The Choice Is Yours series continues with Lord Willin’ versus The College Dropout.

ThePuppetMaster503 fully endorses Krusty-Os, makes tizight videos, and will not show his face until he wants to! Oops! Neck broke!

• Toilet Cobra has been shut-in and listing some of his most treasured items. Last week he displayed his favorite Star Wars-related items, this week we got his favorite tees and records.

• The new Kill With Video summons the Goth Star!!!

• If you’ve ever wished there was a site devoted to MS Paint renditions of classic, cult and obscure album cover artwork, you are in luck.

• What’s quickly becoming our most popular weekly column, this week’s installment of Fear of a 12th Planet examines Hyperdimensional Physics!!!

HAM STEAK BUMFUCKED HILLBILLY BACKWOODS GEAR BY YELLOW CORN.

• Dr. No shares his thoughts on the classic fashion of the outdoorsman.

• Hope you didn’t miss our interview with the mad geniuses from Everything Is Terrible!

• Search engine term of the week that led people to the Bloglin: “LSD”

• Top rated (B+ or higher) albums for the week: Couple Tracks from Fucked Up, There Is Love in You from Four Tet, and Teen Dream from Beach House.

Bloglin Weekly Round-Up!

richmotu22

As I’m writing this week’s Round-Up, I’ve got the second disc of Friday the 13th: The Series going in the background. I’m on an episode called “Hellowe’en.” This midget demon just tripped and accidentally stabbed herself. Then it just like disappeared. Nuts. Anyway, what a week!

• Special guest writer James Greene Jr. interviewed Pigboy from the MOTU movie. Pigboy was played by the luckiest boy in the world circa 1987, Ryan Szponder. The interview features some exclusive photos and dirt from the behind the scenes of MOTU. Everyone wins. Thank you James and Ryan!

• Ninjasonik’s new mixtape, Strictly 4 My Hipstaz, dropped this week, featuring new mixes, unreleased tracks, and special guest Ease DaMan. Ease’s Twitter wallpaper is pretty gnarly.

Ellen Stagg is heading back to LA to shoot the likes of Asi Akira and Mandy Morbid. Keep your eyes and pants peeled for those photos.

• Hustler has some fresh porn parodies coming out in 2010, including This Aint Curb Your Enthusiasm XXX and This Aint Glee XXX . Most importantly though, they’re planning an Avatar porno. I think I’m required to see it.

This week’s Kill With Video is really…something else.

Choice Is Yours vol. 62 pitted Stone Temple Pilot’s Core against Sixteen Stone from Bush. This installment featured some heated, personal comments. Enjoy.

• The Toilet Cobra shared with us some of his favorite Star Wars things. Most impressive.

This week’s Fear of a 12th Planet discussed New World Order extraordinaire, Albert Pike. Check it out here.

• There were plenty of top rated albums this week to keep your ears occupied: % from Dinowalrus, the A Thousand Voices EP from My Gold Mask, The Colossus from RJD2, the S/T EP from Passions, and IRM from Charlotte Gainsbourg.

14_JAY_REATARD

We lost Jay Reatard last week and Conan O’Brien, in a way. But it wasn’t all bad…

A writeup in the prestigious Penthouse for the 2010 мишка Calendar? That’s one impressive way to kick off the new year!!! On a related note, Kimberly Kane won Best Actress at the AVN awards, check out her shoots with Ellen Stagg here.

• Zachg wrote a great piece about “hipster graffiti.” Had some good shit going in the comments.

This promo for the Wii game Wiiwaa had a lot of us scratching our heads. And balls.

• This week’s Kill With Video should be alternately titled “Four Minutes in Heaven” because that’s what I imagine Heaven to be like. It even got some love over at the Mad Decent blog! Respek.

• Speaking of Mad Decent, their Free Gucci: Best of the Cold War Mixtapes is fucking great and may cause clones to dance inappropriately with their mothers.

tumblr_ku9pwycDrd1qz9n4ho1_500

• The world of Juggalos is like that old saying about not being able to look away from a car wreck. And we’ve never been ashamed of of Juggalo fascination here at the Bloglin. Toilet Cobra scored an interview with Dustin Derosier, the man behind the Juggalog: an inside look into Juggalos from behind the merch table.

• The new installment of Fear of a 12th Planet brought us the dirt on Forbidden Archaeology.

• Top rated albums of the week: Hidden from These New Puritans, Earthology from the Whitefield Brothers, the Miss My Gun EP from Vermillion Sands, Dust on Common from Led Er Est, the Behave Yourself EP from the Cold War Kids, and The Lost Album from 13th Chime.

Hi. This rare baby unicorn is up for sale on eBay. It’s going for $649, which isn’t that bad when you consider how rare baby unicorns are. Since I’m providing you with the cream of the Blogin crop once again, I think you should buy it for me.

Keep Watch XV is brought to you by Crookers and it’s damn good. I’m listening to it right now. I like when the guys goes, “You should all smoke DMT and join my cult, motherfuckers!” It’s funny because it’s true. Collect all the Keep Watch mixes!!!

• LA-based photographer Estevan Oriol shot some photos of Ellen Stagg shooting Charlotte Stokely. With a camera, not a gun.

• The Choice Is Yours series brought back old tensions of East Coast vs. West Coast hip hop as All Eyez on Me took on Ready to Die. I just hope the beef can be squashed before anyone gets killed.

• The new Kill With Video brought back old memories of watching scrambled porn on Skinemax.

• A new weekly segment kicked off on Thursday: Fear of a 12th Planet. In the first installment, Cornbluth discussed theories on actual stargates and historical evidence of extra-terrestrials. I want to believe!

• Toilet Cobra attended a book signing in LA of noise-music maker and all around awesome dude Boyd Rice. Video and pictures of attractive people included.

• We Usually Take All Niggas’ Garments applies to Mishka fitteds! The Wu rolled through PEDX in Baltimore and Rae was rocking a Death Adders fitted.

Vampire-Weekend-Contrived

• Although it received a “D” rating, the review of the new Vampire Weekend’s album, Contra sparked some great comments and inspired Crook to “fix” their album cover.

• The only high scoring album reviewed this week was the Optimus Maximus EP from Gatekeeper!

• Search Engine Term of the Week: cop a feel.

504x_ninjasonik

Another week, another holiday behind us. Whatever you practice, I hope the Krampus went easy on you and you didn’t choke out too many relatives. Toss back the rest of the nog and enjoy the week in Мишка.

• Gossip rag Gawker launched their Hipster of the Decade Poll, with Kari Ferrell, Gavin McInnes, and the late Dash Snow gunnin’ for the number one spot. Also in the running is “The Concept of the Black Hipster,” which uses an image of Мишка family members Ninjasonik as an example. Natch.

• The Bloglin best of lists rolls on with the Top Ten Memes of the Decade! I had forgotten about a couple of these, but I was stoked to see All Your Base high up in the ranks. I like that one. More lists on the way before the ball drops! In case you slept, check out the Top 100 Albums of 2009 List here.

• On his blog, Prolly posted his Top Ten Fixed Gear Freestyle Photos of 2009. I don’t own a bike anymore, but I once beat Colin Winkelman (RIP) in pool.

• Above is the new chapter in the Kill With Video saga, “Should Have Taken Acid With Slush Puppie.” Yeah, should have.

• If you’re thinking about saving your Christmas money for college or, I dunno, a “future,” fuck that. Мишка Holiday Grab Bags are back! No seriously, good deals. Also check out the Gein New Era Hunting Caps!

• Welcome the winter with the Winter Solstice Mix from Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife, Fever Ray). Perfect tunes to jack your frost to! (That’s my final shitty joke of 2009, I swear)

• Hateball got raped by the black wave of terror but still had it in him to drop some book knowledge on us.

• Our Album Honor Roll for the week: Kalliolle, Kukkulalle from Verivala and The Music Scene from Blockhead.
