Jason Shaltz: Capturing the Juggalos

By Mikhail, 06/13/2010 - 12:30pm
I got this email in my inbox from Jason Shaltz a few days ago and there was really no way I could pass it up.
I am the biggest Juggalo in the 5 boroughs.  I followed Twiztid (proteges of ICP) on their nationwide Slaughterhouse tour from March to April.  I have released 3 of the 10 cities on our site, each city will be rolled out over the next month or so. I show the good, the bad and the ugly...but one thing remains true:  all of these people are FUCKING AWESOME. You guys dance the line between hating and loving juggalos, so ill give you something to love.
Well Jason you have given me something to love, your photos. These are just down right fantastic and like you said truly capture the good, bad and the ugly of the Juggalo culture. I genuinely think these are some fantastic photographs. Usually we're left with crappy Myspace or amateur photographs trying to document or rather exploit Juggalo culture for some laughs and hopefully a meme or two. I knew it was a matter of time before someone with not only an inside track, but some serious skill behind the lens would capture the intensity, dedication and silliness associated with people who have devoted their life to following the Dark Carnival. To answer Jason's own confusion when emailing me, I have no hate towards Juggalos. While I do find it amusing and yes very silly, I also have a respect for people who are willing to fly in the face of all convention and norm and just be themselves. Juggalos fall right in line with that for me. While yes I'll laugh at some of the stupid things Violent J and Shaggy will say or do... I can't ever hate on anyone so clearly enjoying themselves, even if it isn't my thing. Seriously in the end is it any more sillier than Black Metal? As Jason mentioned he took these Photos at each of Twiztid's stops on the Slaughterhouse tour and will be slowly unveiling the photos from each leg of that tour on his site. I'd be really interested to see just how much Juggalo culture and style even varies from city to city. We'll keep you posted whenever Jason updates his site with new photos from his journeys. In the meantime enjoy a few more of my favorite pictures after the jump or bum around his site. It's a great portfolio of other non and somewhat Juggalo related photography from Jason and his sister Carrie. It's all clown love round these parts. Мишка is down for the clown 'til we dead in the ground. Fuck ya life, fuck tha h8rz! Woop woop!
