Ink, Coffee, And White Out: The Work of Jake Fried

By Pajama Sam, 03/01/2013 - 3:30pm
When I think of animation, Adult Swim is the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe Adventure Time. The stop motion animation of Jake Fried is not your typical Aqua Teen Hunger Squad episode. His work is a mix of the coolest and trippiest thing I've ever seen on the weirder end of Tumblr. Snakes, cigarettes, third eyes are all incorporated into Fried's highly detailed, surrealist images like "The Deep End". He piles his drawings on top of one another to produce a insane collage of graphic cartoonery heaven. The thing is, this is all hand-drawn. This guy took ink, white out, and coffee and made this. If that's not amazing, then I don't even know what is. Although this video is only one minute, the more times you watch, the more you get out of it. There are so many things going on that I didn't notice the first time I watched. We can only imagine what spurred Fried to use these materials for his artwork, considering the unusual combination, I'd be willing to guess Fried lives in close proximity to an office with some real lax security.
