Real question: Would you ever listen to a Gunplay joint stone-cold sober? What would be the point? To me, the dude is refreshingly candid about his relationship with drugs, violence, and every other unsavory aspect of the modern world you could possibly think of. He never churches it up, or dresses it down into an easily digestible package covered in Ralph Lauren and Bugattis. Real talk, 9 out of 10 doctors agree that all ya'll readin' this blog couldn't fuck with Gunplay on a straight, head-to-head comparison of thug criteria. Like, I wouldn't mind meeting the guy, even interviewing him. Maybe even have a beer with him. But shit, I just have the slippery slope feeling you get when you hang with some cats. Like, my future is in the balance and I'm not sure if I should get in the car and roll out, Mr. Play. So the newest mixtape, Acquitted becomes one of those windows into a world you'll never be a part of. Whether it's hyperbolically described through his raps or not, Gunplay takes you straight into the thick of it, where, personally, I'm not sure I have any business being in the first place. Even as an MMG Associate Professor of Thug Raps (with tenure), Gunplay's mixtape is decidedly un-Maybach in the best way possible. Yeah, you got that fuccin' muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-muh-Maybach shit that makes me want to throw my chair through the window, but the production otherwise is way scarier and much less luxurious. Stream it below and maybe get into something you shouldn't this evening.
